Salary Talk - Specifically accounting

2020.09.10 22:55 zee994 Salary Talk - Specifically accounting

Hoping this is the appropriate sub-forum for this: When trying to gauge an average salary from EY or KPMP, etc via, the salaries seem so ridiculously low.
Could this just be partners trying to prevent staff from gaining factual data or could salaries possible be this low?
For reference, a senior consulting gets paid $79K while a senior accountant makes 65K
The challenge I am personally facing in this is having no way to figure out if I am fairly paid within my given skillset and position.
Truthfully think we are long overdue to have an accurate salary meter by province and city.
What would it take for a not-for-profit salary meter to be implemented for ALL trades and professions? Everything currently feels so out of date on all platforms, when doing a search for this basic information.
Does anyone have thoughts on this one?
Note: I am not currently working for one of the big 4 accounting firms.,7_IC2281069_KO8,27.htm?fromAge=7&jl=3645783726&ja=142322490&guid=0000017478e3cc91b3515abbcad1f1ef&pos=102&src=GD_JOB_AD&srs=EMAIL_JOB_ALERT&s=224&ao=1032341&utm_source=jobalert&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=jobAlertAlert&utm_content=ja-jobtitle&utm_term=

2020.08.20 03:18 SensibleMagician My ADHD symptoms and falling Under the Radar

Just to clarify, I'm 19 M and undiagnosed but I am preparing with my new mental health professionals to get assed in a few weeks, i'm not gonna lie i'm kind of emotional writing this, my teen years are coming to a close and after years of always feeling "off" and "different" and just flat out broken i feel as if i'm finnaly gonna get clarity and answers to why so i begin my 20's Feeling right and to me it's kind of poetic, to others definetly corny lmao, this list was never supposed to be heard by anyone but my Psychologist and psychiatrist but I felt like it would be helpful with anyone who has gone undiagnosed and had to struggle in their teen years. If you suspect ADHD then take the leap and get assessed, it's never too late. But for me, I feel like it's perfect that this is coming to a close right before my 20's Anyway, here is a a train wreck of a list, I left alot out but these things were the most prominent to me
  1. as a young teen I always felt like my eye sight wasn't clear and I thought that was why I couldn't focus, so I got my eyes tested for glasses and it wasn't helpful, but I stumbled onto stimulants like energy drinks when I was 14 and i sought them out like a crutch because I felt like it gave me that clarity
  2. I could not and i still can't grasp onto audible instructions, it feels like my brain is a sponge that just refuses to soak in information, it always effected school work nomatter how engaged, it effected my work unless I was excited that day, and it effects relationships because I just struggle to retain things such as stories and names
  3. I don't think i would ever classify myself as dumb but I find it extremely draining and difficult to articulate my thoughts and ideas even if it's complex subjects that I'm passionate about and have studied in my own time, i fumble basic words in an attempt to string together a coherent sentence and it makes me sound uneducated wich destroys my self esteem.
  4. I failed to maintain a grip on friendships in highscool unless they sought me out, alot of people liked and knew me and wanted to be close with me because I was very open, and they liked my energetic and shameless energy because I used to do shit like jump down a dumb excessive amount of stairs in year 9 and hurt myself to be funny (wich is weird i know) or just be really manic and obnoxious in the courtyard as if i didn't care what people thought of me but really I just didn't have control. but I found myself sliding from group to group throughout the school year, (or even the day) because being in the same situations got stale and draining to keep up and for that reason I rarely wen't to parties and or gatherings in high school and if I agreed I would not show up, for example I didn't show up for both my junior and senior school formals because I just "didn't have the energy", and it wasn't that i didn't have a partner to attend with because i was good-looking and obsessed with my appearance (wich is far from emotionally attractive) but the idea of going felt more mentally difficult then moving a mountain wich my skinny ass definitely couldn't do. Even if I was to go to a friends house I could go for 1 night Max, because I just couldn't relax, I was restless and hyper wich furthermore added to me feeling more mentally drained, And if I wasn't hyper I just wouldn't leave my house, I have whole friendships based on me being Manic and thats the only side of me they know. If i was to go on dates i would load up on excessive amounts of caffeine just to have the mental over head and act like what I thought was "myself" i robbed myself of so many genuine teenage experiences wich caused me to. Become somewhat of a loner who only speaks to my partner and my 3 super close friends who understand why i am the way i am. wich is also why at 19 I smoke cigarettes, because each cancer stick is like a little bump of mental cognition and so in social situations I chain smoke.
  5. I have this term i'v used for a while called "sticky brain" sticky brain for me comes about at around 5-6 oclock. Usually when any sorts of Stiumuli such as coffee has worn off and i havn't eaten dinner yet. In this period I find it even more difficult to engage in conversations and listen to stories. I will sit and listen to you talk and all i will see is a pair of eyes and a mouth almost literally "floating" infront of me as everything in my visual vicinity melts away and I fall inside of my imagination, until finnaly I force myself to switch back out of guilt and i kind of guess what you were telling me wich I am unfortunately skilled in.
  6. This is something that is fairly rare but has happened ever since I was a little kid, whenever I am OVER stimulated it feels like I literally disconnect from my surroundings, like a child has just ripped out a plug from the wall that was connected to all of the colour and excitement in the world, it's not depression, it just feels like your fighting with all of your mental energy to feel "real" and "clear" and it's like this weird bland haze where you feel like a robot that's fallen into the matrix and the only emotion is this slight de ja vu like feeling. I'v recently come to realise this term is called derealisation
  7. The only time I have TRUE focus is when i know I'm gonna get some huge dopaminergic payout from it, I literally can't do a task if it's tedious or if someone asks me to do it wich I used to confuse with being narcissistic growing up, because I thought that my brain chemistry just wanted to world to revolve around me wich I know now wasn't the case. i found tricks to force myself into doing tasks for other people. For example doing housework, if i clean the house and someone notices and pays a compliment i still get that dopaminergic payout. For tasks I found "tedious" like finishing my study paper that I put off for a week, the teacher seeing that I'm actually bright and not uneducated also equals to that dopaminergic payout, i know that living like that is borderline toxic but it's the only way i got through my teen years.
  8. This trait kind of intertwines with the last and i'v come to realise it's symptoms of hyperfocus, a point I havn't made yet is that i'v always been creative and i'v written songs for almost half my life, I'm an artist at heart and it's the only thing that makes me feel truly comfortable, confident and myself, but it's also the most draining thing in the world and that spills into most things i am passionate in, im either half assed on a task, or I sit in my room for 7-8 hours with my brain in complete over drive, no breaks. And any sort of distractions such as someone knocking on my door, a text message or as simple as needing to go to the bathroom can completely derail that and it either takes me hours to get back into overdrive or I just leave the project and never come back to it unless I again will get some dopaminergic benefits such as someone liking the project. For me it's easy to slip into hyperfocus the first time, wich is usually in the morning when i have a coffee but once I'm pulled out it's like the door is locked behind me
This year has been maybe the hardest of my life (although I think 2020 has been trash for everyone), but it hasn't been hard because of traumatic experiences, because believe me i'v had my fair share lmao, but it's because these symptoms that i'v listed and some unlisted have been the worse they have ever been. i'm 19, a high school drop out, i don't work and I'm a song writer than can't finish a song anymore, and it's not because i'm lazy because i know my potential, I had been working and trying to make money (chasing dopaminergic effects) since I was legally aloud to get a job wich in Australia is 14 and 9 months, i'm passionate, hungry and i know my potential and who I wanna be, but i'm just trying so hard to find the energy to progress forward, i'm stuck scaling a wall that i can't get over. But i'm excited to start this new chapter, to find clarity and fulfil my potential. I appreciate this immensely if you finished this, and I hope you found some sort of inspiration from such a mess, if you would like a follow up in a few months I would be more than happy to write another trainwreck of a paragraph.
Thank you for listening!!

2020.07.27 12:45 Str8Outta2750 So what really happened? The Disappearance and Suspected Murder of Quanne Diec (Sydney, New South Wales, Australia - 27 July 1998)

Today (27 July 2020), on what marks the 22nd Anniversary of her disappearance - I've decided to post this case which, as a young person, got me interested in Missing Persons Cases in the first place. The case I refer to, is the disappearance; and suspected murder; of Quanne Diec - whom disappeared on her way to school, from the Western Sydney suburb of Granville, on the morning of 27 July 1998; aged just 12 years old.
Quanne (pronounced “Queenie”) has managed to remain in the consciousness of many Sydneysiders (and perhaps many Australians) over these past two decades. Her disappearance was headline news in Sydney at the time – with the New South Wales Police putting out a strong appeal to the public for her whereabouts. Quanne, to this day, has never been located – and is suspected as having been abducted and murdered.
The case remained cold for years – until November 2016, when a suspect, Vinzent Tarantino, walked into Surry Hills Police Station in Sydney to confess to Quanne’s abduction and murder. Tarantino (born Victor David Gerada), a person with a documented history of mental health issues, then recanted his confession, pleading Not Guilty and stood trial for charges relating to Quanne’s disappearance and homicide. He was acquitted by Jury on 6 November 2017 on all charges presented. Understandably, a controversial situation all round – and one which sadly brings Quanne’s case back to square one. So, what really did happen to Quanne?
Background and Case Outline
Quanne Diec was born in Sydney on 12 May 1986 (her Date of Birth has also been published as 12 July 1986), to Vietnamese refugee parents – Sam Nguyen Diec and A Muoi "Ann" Ngo, both of whom are of ethnic Cantonese Chinese-Vietnamese background, arriving to Australia in 1978; and had two older siblings - her brother Sunny; and her sister Tina.
The family lived in a single story dwelling, in Western Sydney suburb of Granville - which was a very working class suburb; and had been traditionally a predominately Anglo-Australian in its population; although it began to be characterised by a very strong Lebanese-Australian community (established mainly by refugees from the Lebanese Civil War) from the 1980's onwards. The suburb's refugee population is a result of it being not far away from what was the Villawood Migrant Centre (which since has become the Villawood Immigration Detention Centre). Her father owned and ran a small mixed-business (i.e. a convenience store) in the South-Western Sydney suburb of Casula.
Quanne had started high school at the start of 1998; enrolling at Strathfield Girls High School, located in the Inner-Western Sydney suburb of Strathfield, about 10 kilometres (6 miles) away from her home. During Term 1 of high school, she was driven to school every morning by her father. However, Quanne; beginning to seek her own independence; started insisting that she be allowed to travel to school herself, via train. Although both of her parents had concerns about this, they relented - allowing Quanne to walk by herself to Clyde Railway Station, then catch the train to Strathfield for school, from the start of Term 2 (Source: MamaMia via MSN).
Monday, 27th July 1998 started off in the Diec household as any Monday did. It was raining that morning; and was early into Term 3 of high school for Quanne. She got into her school uniform, packed her lunch, said goodbye to her sister Tina (who was still in bed), then her mother Ann leading her to the front door to see her off – Quanne then headed off, waving to her mother, whom watched until her daughter disappeared out of sight as she entered Factory Street (Source: SMH).
Quanne got as far as the Australia Post International Mail Centre (now known as the Australia Post Sydney Gateway Facility) – which is (according to Google Maps) about 350 metres (approx. 380 yards) from her home; and about 550 metres (approx. 600 yards) away from Clyde Railway Station. She was captured by one of the Mail Centre’s CCTV camera at approx. 7.43 am, walking up Factory Street. The same CCTV camera captured about eight seconds later, what NSW Police described as a “shadowy figure” whom appeared to be following Quanne. However, another CCTV camera located at the other end (Northern side) of the Mail Centre captured no image of Quanne – indicating she disappeared between these two points along Factory Street; and failed to make it to Clyde Railway Station (Source: SMH).
As her parents had assumed she made it to school; and conversely her school assumed her absence was due to illness – the alarm was not raised about her disappearance until that afternoon, when she failed to return home from school. Quanne was reported as Missing to Granville Police Station by her parents that evening, at around 5.00 pm.
NSW Police were prompt in putting out a public appeal for Quanne, with all mainstream media outlets within metropolitan Sydney covering Quanne’s disappearance as headline news. In the immediate days following, the NSW Police also set up a mannequin at Clyde Railway Station, dressed as Quanne at the time of her disappearance (wearing her Strathfield Girls High School uniform); and handing out flyers containing Quanne’s photo to rail commuters. Soon after, the NSW Police formed Strike Force Lyndey, to specifically investigate Quanne’s case.
Quanne’s case deeply resonated with the Sydney public; with the media continuing their interest and coverage of her case in the weeks and months following. The profile of her case reached such a point, it resulted in the highly unusual move of the then incumbent Premier of New South Wales, Bob Carr, announcing a an increase to the reward for information on her case, from $AUD100,000 to $AUD200,000 (normally, announcements regarding rewards are done by the senior hierarchy within NSW Police).
Publicly, it appeared that no promising leads regarding Quanne’s disappearance were forthcoming. However, an anonymous male caller phone the NSW Crime Stoppers Hotline, who gave information suggesting that the Police search the Duck River, which runs between Granville (on its western bank) and Auburn (on the east). (Source – via Tapatalk. Note – articles originally published by Australian Associated Press (AAP))
It should be noted there are two tributaries in the area named Duck – there is Duck Creek, which is largely channelised – but starts in the suburb of Guildford, flowing due North-East through to Granville, then into the Duck River at Clyde. The Duck River itself starts off from a series of drains in the suburb of Yagoona, flowing due north through or past the suburbs of Birrong, Sefton, Chester Hill, Auburn, South Granville, Granville, Clyde, Rosehill; and eventually into the Parramatta River at Silverwater.
However, it was the Duck River which became the focus of the investigation. On January 12 and 13 of 1999, the NSW Police, along with volunteers from the NSW State Emergency Service (SES), drained a 300 metre (approx. 330 yard) section of the Duck River around the South Granville and Auburn area – about 1.5 kilometres (or nearly a mile) south of the Diec family home. No human remains were found; and the items that were recovered from the river bed – as set of vehicle registration plates, a crowbar and items of clothing, were eventually ruled out as being connected to Quanne’s disappearance.
After the NSW Police concluded their search of the Duck River, the anonymous male caller again contacted the NSW Crime Stoppers Hotline, this time claiming the area which the Police covered in their search wasn’t the right area; and that they had missed vital clues. The NSW Police put out a public appeal in early February 1999 to the anonymous caller to contact them again – believing this person was connected to the case; and had further and vital information. However, it appears this person made no further contact; and no further searches of the Duck River were conducted.
Another lead in the investigation was the vehicle possibly involved in Quanne’s abduction. Some of the information which NSW Police released at the time, appears a little confusing. However one witness, a woman, reported to Police seeing a girl getting into a “Transit-type van” (presumably a large European bonneted van, such as a Ford Transit). NSW Police went as far as conducting hypnosis on this witness, in an attempt to jog her memory for further information – but to no avail.
It should be noted also, that Australia Post were using Ford Transit vans within their fleet at the time of Quanne’s disappearance – although these vehicles were generally painted red with Australia Post signwriting.
There was information from a witness, of a van seen in the area that morning, with a registration number starting with either “PAO” or “PAQ”. Police put forward an appeal for the owner of the van to come forward. Eventually, investigators did track down that vehicle – a Mitsubishi Express van, with the NSW Registration Number PAQ-205, belonging to a Communications Equipment company called Benelec (Images of Vehicle - Sources: Nine News, SMH). The vehicle was distinctive, in that it had prominent signwriting. However, their employee and driver of that vehicle – Victor Gerada, became a person of interest in this case.
Victor had grown up at Second Street, Granville – just off Factory Street and near where Quanne was last seen. Although he had moved from that address, his father Godwin was still living there; and he was still a frequent visitor. Prior to his employment with Benelec, he had been a nightclub bouncer – having worked at various venues, including within Sydney’s notorious red-light district of Kings Cross.
It has been reported, allegedly unbeknownst to the officers on Strike Force Lyndey at that point, that Victor Gerada was also concurrently under the witness protection program. Gerada, in his employment as a bouncer, had witnessed the gruesome aftermath of the notorious Blackmarket Café/Hellfire Club bikie murders, in the Inner-City suburb of Chippendale on 9 November 1997 (note – “bikie” being an Australian colloquial term for a “one percent” or outlaw biker). This crime can be read about further here – but in short, it was a dispute between the Bandidos and Rebels Motorcycle Clubs – resulting in the deaths of three Bandidos, in the basement of the Blackmarket Café Nightclub. Ultimately, Gerada was never called up to testify on the stand as a witness (Source: Daily Telegraph).
However, reports suggest that Gerada began living a very transient life from this point onwards; which also spiralled out of control due to his Post Traumatic Stress and deteriorating mental health. Possibly due to these reasons, it appears the investigation’s focus on Gerada – who would later legally change his name to Vinzent Tarantino (a homage to Hollywood director, Quentin Tarantino; and the character Vincent Vega from Tarantino’s film Pulp Fiction) – eventually waned.
Another potential sighting of the suspect vehicle (along potentially with the suspects), is by Quanne’s father. Sam Diec testified on the stand at Vinzent Tarantino’s trial (via the aid of a Cantonese interpreter) that he saw a white van, with two men inside, in their street that morning – which he felt was unusual, as their street was a dead end. He also stated that the van was “running very slowly and the driver was staring at me”, to which he felt “very strange” (Sources: SMH, 7 News via YouTube).
There was another person of interest, during the investigation, whom also allegedly drove a white van. The individual – whom is unnamed in media reports; and is now deceased – was a male employee of the Australia Post International Mail Centre; and was a Vietnam Veteran. This person was also brought to attention during Vinzent Tarantino’s trial – with both the Prosecution and Defence respectively making statements regarding him.
It was reported the Crown Prosecutor at the trial, Pat Barrett, had informed the jury regarding this person of interest, including alleged accounts by his former co-workers, that he reportedly made “revolting racist and sexist” remarks; and was described as being a “beast” and “smelly”. However, the Prosecution also stated about this POI, with regards to Quanne’s disappearance, that it was the “extent of anything implicating him in any way”. However, Tarantino’s barrister, Belinda Rigg SC, countered and argued there was “a reasonable possibility” that this individual was involved in Quanne’s disappearance.
Many shocking allegations and aspersions regarding this individual, arose during the course of Tarantino’s trial and reported in the media. This included accounts that he expressed a hatred towards Asians; and also openly expressed very lewd and deviant sexual views. On the latter, it’s alleged he stated having an interest in young girls and having “deviant views” on Asian women. It’s also alleged that he bragged about having sex with young Asian girls; and most disturbingly, openly discussed about what sexual acts/fantasies he wanted to perform upon girls aged between 10 to 12 years old (Sources: SMH here and here, here).
It’s alleged this individual took leave from work, just after Quanne’s disappearance. Although there appears to be no published reports confirming this, it implies this person was working on the day of her disappearance. There are no other published reports or public statements regarding this individual being discounted as a person of interest in Quanne’s case.
There is also the account of a witness, named Romain Maas – who’s evidence was highlighted by the Defence during Tarantino’s trail. According to Mr Maas, he saw on the morning of Quanne’s disappearance - a man he described as “Lebanese-looking” leading an Asian girl across the road, whilst gripping her wrist. He claims to have been outside when he heard a shout or yell; and then heard the girl say “Help me” – the man who was with her then said “she’s my girlfriend”; with Mr Maas then deciding not to get involved (Source: SMH).
With regards to the original investigation, although Quanne’s case did remain in the consciousness of the Sydney public and continued to receive sporadic media attention, it appeared to have hit a brick wall and had gone cold. For 18 years, Quanne’s family had held hope that she was still alive and would eventually return home one day. They refused to move from their Granville home for this reason; and as practicing Buddhists, continued to pray for her return. Sam Diec even went as far as travelling to other parts of the country in the search for his daughter, following information of alleged sightings. That hope eventually came crashing down for the Diec family, when what appeared to be a major development happened.
The Confession, Arrest and Trial of Vinzent Tarantino
On Sunday, 20 November 2016, at around 3.40 pm in the afternoon, a man walked into Surry Hills Police Station – not far from the Sydney CBD. He presented himself, telling the officer on duty “I need to hand myself in for a homicide… it’s all been building up for me and it’s too much”. He was taken in by detectives, whom proceeded to conduct a formal interview – which took place just after 8.00 pm that evening.
This man would eventually declare during the interview, that he had abducted and killed Quanne Diec on 27 July 1998, claiming his motivation was: “… I was in a lot of debt and I had this stupid idea of ransom…”. He further elaborated: “It was a stupid ransom attempt and it went wrong and I just want to resolve it for the family and try and bring the girl home for her family… I was going to let her go and I just panicked". He claimed that he’d taken Quanne, whilst she was walking to Clyde Railway Station; and had strangled her – then had taken and buried her body in bushland to the south of Sydney (Source: ABC).
That man was Vinzent Tarantino (formerly Victor Gerada) – as mentioned above in the Background and Case Outline, had been a person of interest in the original investigation by Strike Force Lyndey. As previously mentioned, Tarantino’s mental health had deteriorated in the intervening years. He was still extremely paranoid that the Rebels Motorcycle Club were still out to get him, - as retribution for speaking to Police following the Blackmarket Café murders. He had changed his name, but also had moved addresses on several occasions due to these fears – and went to extreme lengths to conceal and distance himself from his past. His paranoia of the Rebels was still very strong, even at the time of his confession – stating to Police during his interview: “…now my partner’s been threatened with gang raping; and my father and brothers have been threatened to be killed in a contract killing” (Source: ABC).
However, Tarantino also experienced a number of mental breakdowns and psychotic episodes over the years; including violent outbursts and attempts of self harm and suicide. Some of these incidents also involved Police intervention, which resulted in violent confrontations. One such incident, Tarantino reportedly threw a Molotov cocktail at Police officers; and sprayed another officer with petrol (gasoline). He also reportedly had a violent alteration in 2006 with his then partner – after she found out he hadn’t disclosed the truth about his past to her (Source: SMH).
Even during presenting himself at Surry Hills Police Station, his mental health was still a topic. He was found to be carrying a 35 centimetre (13.78 inch) kitchen knife when he presented; which was apparently a pattern of Tarantino’s behaviour from his previous breakdowns. Tarantino was also charged with carrying an offensive weapon, in relation to the knife – which was dealt with separately to the charges he would face relating to Quanne; and which he plead Gulity to and received a conviction for (Source: Nine News via MSN).
Also whilst at the Police Station, one of Tarantino’s brothers called his mobile phone – his brother spoke to officers, warning them: "[he] has psychological issues and I'm worried about him".
Tarantino’s mental health and his paranoia of the Rebels, would be continuing themes throughout his legal proceedings.
Following the interview, Tarantino was informed by Detective Sergeant Wayne Plumeridge (the custody manager on duty at Surry Hills Police Station) that he was under arrest – Tarantino responded that he understood his arrest; and also allegedly stated “I’m a grub, I don’t deserve a trial”. Police proceeded to charge Tarantino in relation to the abduction (specifically – “detain for advantage”) and murder of Quanne; and was remanded in custody (Sources: SMH: here and here).
The following day (Monday, 21 November 2016), Tarantino faced Central Local Court in Sydney for a preliminary hearing. He did not apply for bail – and was formally refused bail. However, during proceedings, Tarantino made a remark in court, against his own solicitor’s advice: "I believe my brother … and my partner … have been murdered in retaliation for what I've done" – a statement which was untrue (Sources:, ABC).
On that same day – NSW Police also conducted a forensic search of his father’s home in Second Street, Granville. Police also conducted a Press Conference, conducted by Superintendent Scott Whyte of the Rosehill Local Area Command. At this conference, Supt. Whyte stated that Tarantino had been a person of interest in this case; and also alleged that Tarantino told detectives information “…that only the murderer would know”.
On Wednesday, 23 November 2016 – Police took Tarantino, under guard, to a location he claimed to have buried Quanne. Tarantino had told detectives he had taken Quanne’s body to bushland, just off Appin Road in Bulli Tops – south of Sydney and just north of the regional city of Wollongong. He stated that he took Quanne’s body – initially leaving it in bushland a short distance from the road, but then returned, placing it into and moving it with a wheelie bin; and along with a shovel, a machete and a glass covered candle; found and buried it in a spot. Tarantino lead detectives on the search, which was filmed by Police – however, he seemed somewhat confused and disoriented of the location. After five and a half hours of searching, no remains or other evidence was located (Sources: Daily Telegraph, SMH here and here).
The NSW Police later conducted a second search for Quanne the following year – starting on 31 July 2017, over a three day period – in bushland within the district of Cataract, a neighbouring locality to Bulli Tops. Sam Diec was present at this search for his daughter; however again, Police were unsuccessful in locating any remains or evidence (Sources: ABC, Nine News).
A second formal interview was conducted by Police with Vinzent Tarantino on 28 November 2016, in which detectives attempted to obtain more specific details about the crime. It appears further clarification wasn’t forthcoming during this interview, however Tarantino did express that he felt terrible about what had happened (Sources: ABC and
Tarantino remained under custody, in remand – his committal hearing not commencing until early March 2018. However, Tarantino’s position changed during this period – he had recanted his confession and was now denying he had abducted and murdered Quanne. He would enter a plea of Not Guilty. His committal hearing (set down for five days), was conducted within the first week of March 2018 at Parramatta Local Court. Evidence was tendered by the Crown Prosecution – along with calling witnesses. A trial was set down, following the committal hearing – but it was another 18 month wait (Source: Nine News).
The trail commenced on 9 September 2019, in the NSW Supreme Court, with Tarantino pleading Not Guilty. The trail would last for two months. The Crown Prosecution’s case was that Tarantino had abducted, sexually assaulted and murdered Quanne; and that he confessed this crime to two ex-partners, a former friend; and to his own brother. The Defence argued that Tarantino did not abduct and murder Quanne and had made a false confession – motivated by his psychotic state and his belief the Rebels Motorcycle Club were still after him, believed he would be safer being in custody (Source: 7 News, SMH).
Tarantino and his Defence did agree that he was present in the area, on the morning of Quanne’s disappearance – and did pick up a female from Factory Street in his work van. However, the Defence claims that female, whom Tarantino allegedly picked up, was an adult sex worker, whom went by the alias of “Dee” (Source: SMH). However, no-one (Police, Prosecution or Defence) could not locate this alleged sex worker, to obtain a statement or call as a witness (Source: SMH). The Defence also argued there was “a reasonable possibility” that another person of interest, the Mail Centre worker (as outlined in the Background and Case Outline section above) was responsible for Quanne’s disappearance and murder.
Several witnesses were called up in the trail. All immediate members of Quanne’s family gave evidence on the stand – her parents Sam Diec and Ann Ngo, both of whom utilised the assistance of a Cantonese translator, along with her brother Sonny Diec and her sister Dr Tina Diec. Notably, Sam gave his eyewitness account of seeing a white van with two men in it, driving suspiciously in their street (as outlined in the Background and Case Outline section above).
The Prosecution also called witnesses, in regards to Tarantino’s alleged confessions. One was his ex-girlfriend, Laila Faily. Ms Faily testified that Tarantino confessed to her that he’d taken Quanne and ended up killing her, because “…she was making too much noise”. She also testified that she accompanied Tarantino on a drive to a National Park, in his van (stating that it had a “strange smell”) – and that he stopped the van and removed a wheelie bin from the back. Ms Faily also stated that Tarantino told her he had a fetish for “girls in school uniform” and asked her during sex “do you want me to do what I did to her?” (Sources: Nine News via MSN)
Tarantino’s barrister sort to discredit this witness, arguing inconsistencies in her previous statements. Also, Tarantino denied and took offense to Ms Faily’s evidence that suggested he had raped Quanne Diec, stating it was the “worst fabrication” (Source: Tarantino also now claimed the contents of the wheelie bin did not contain a body, but instead contained firearms, along with cocaine stored within a Tupperware container (Source: SMH).
Another witness was a former friend, Geoff Maurer – whom testified that Tarantino confessed to “taking an Asian girl”, but things went wrong and Tarantino, in his words, had “cancelled her out” (Source: MamaMia via MSN).
Evidence was tendered by the Prosecution, that Tarantino admitted years later to another ex-girlfriend, that he killed Quanne during a botched ransom bid (Source: MamaMia via MSN).
The Prosecution also tendered evidence, of a recorded phone conversation that Vinzent had with his brother, Allan Gerada – alleging he said: “I killed a kid Allan, I’m fucked” (Source: SMH).
However, Tarantino’s Defence contested that these confessions were “false”, which he made up in the belief he needed to do so protect his and his loved one’s lives (Source: MamaMia via MSN).
His barrister, Belinda Rigg SC, conceded that her client’s “world” was different to her own, and that although he was firmly of the view he “did not” have a mental illness, the jury could possibly conclude he was psychotic at the time of his confession – and advised the jury “You are required to consider another man’s mind” (Sources: SMH, ABC, Canberra Times).
Two forensic psychiatrists – Dr Andrew Ellis and Dr Adam Martin; and a clinical and forensic psychologist – Dr Katie Seidler, were called upon to give evidence regarding Vinzent Tarantino’s mental state. All agreed that he had likely suffered a mental illness for some time.
Dr Ellis tendered that Tarantino was most likely suffering a psychosis, at the time of his confession; and suggested a likely diagnosis of schizoaffective disorder. Dr Martin also tendered that Tarantino most like had either schizoaffective disorder or schizophrenia. Dr Seidler tendered that Tarantino became embroiled in a delusional thought system; and had struggled with “…a psychotic condition for almost two decades”. Dr Martin however conceded that neither he, nor Dr Ellis or Dr Seidler, had the opportunity to examine Tarantino before writing their reports, quipping “It’s all a bit speculative” (Sources: SMH, ABC).
Tarantino’s mental health state was also punctuated by his courtroom behaviour – frequently interjecting and making outbursts during proceedings. The presiding Judge, Justice Robert Beech-Jones warning Tarantino on his second day of evidence, after the jury left the courtroom – to “keep acting like that” if he wanted to convict himself and stating “I understand your outburst… This is not the place of outbursts” (Source: SMH).
The jury retired for deliberations on 29 October 2019 – with Justice Robert Beech-Jones discharging one juror; with the remaining 11 person jury proceeding to consider their verdict (Source: 7 News).
The jury returned on 6 November 2019 – delivering the verdict of Not Guilty on all charges relating to Quanne’s abduction and murder. Vinzent Tarantino was immediately released from custody by the Judge.
Tarantino made comments to the awaiting media outside of court, including criticisms of the media’s investigative journalism and not meeting their obligations to ‘seek the truth’ – but also made the comment to the media to “get their chequebooks ready”. He also accused the Police of ‘changing evidence’ in the case, which he claimed to have ‘proof’ of. Tarantino also made the allegation, regarding his role in the search at Bulli Tops: “Because I had a gun pointed at me in the back of the Correctional Services van. That happened” (Sources: SMH, Sky News via YouTube).
The Diec family were absolutely devastated by the verdict. The family held a press conference outside Granville Police Station. Quanne’s cousin, Christine Woo, broke down while delivering a statement on behalf of the family – the full video from 7 News (via YouTube) can be seen here.
My Opinion and Theories
Obviously, it is very sad and destressing that after 22 years, there is still no answer on what happened to Quanne. Her family – and especially her parents, Sam and Ann – have and still carry a lot of pain after all this time. At this point, it appears the investigation is at a dead end; and it’s difficult to see whether that answer will ever be found.
Firstly, my opinion is that Quanne was indeed abducted from Factory Street at Granville – outside of the Australia Post International Mail Centre; and forced into a van against her will. I also believe there was a sexual motivation to this crime – and sadly I believe that Quanne was unfortunately sexually assaulted before being murdered.
As to who actually did it – from my perspective, there does appear to be more than one person of interest in this case.
Keeping this short and sweet, I do not believe Vinzent Tarantino (owing to his mental health) or the Mail Centre worker (whom I suspect was actually inside the Mail Centre at the time) were responsible for Quanne's disappearance.
My opinion is, the two witnessed by Quanne’s father, Sam Diec driving suspiciously in a white van along Seventh Street, are the prime suspects. I’m also inclined to believe the eyewitness statement of Romain Maas too. As troubling as Mr Maas’ reaction to the events he encountered might be, the man he described as seeing – I’m inclined to believe was the passenger of the van that Mr Diec had earlier seen.
I’m inclined to believe these two men were local to the Granville area, or if not – had familiarity with it. I also suspect that Quanne may have been stalked in the days or weeks leading into her disappearance.
Regarding the location of her remains – and returning to that anonymous caller to Crime Stoppers, who gave the Duck River tip off - I’m inclined to believe the information that they gave maybe true. I don’t believe the caller is either one of those two men – although I do suspect the caller could be either a close friend, or a relation to one of, if not, both of the men.
Looking at Google Maps (here) and Street View, along with historical aerial images from the NSW Government’s Spatial Information Exchange (SIX) Viewer website (aerial image from 1998, here) – I think it's highly plausible that Quanne was disposed of in the vicinity of the Duck River, although my leaning is towards the parklands along the South Granville (western) side of the river, around the vicinity of Mackay Road, due to their relative seclusion – compared to the Auburn (eastern) side of the river. Perhaps Police were just slightly off looking in the right spot?
Alternatively, another possible location is a significant bushland reserve south of this locality, on the soutside of Wellington Road, to the west of Auburn Golf Course.
We can only hope however, that someone can be forthcoming with new information to the Police, that can not only identify and bring the true culprits to justice; but also finally locate Quanne. I hope she finally receives the proper and dignified farewell that she deserves; and that her family can finally have some peace.

Claims he is only in the ‘Black Book’ because he sold an expensive camera to Ghislaine many years ago and had to go to her house to show her how to use it (source: This, however, doesn’t explain why there are two numbers listed under Hirsch’s name that are attributed to Scott Geffert, the General Manager for Advanced Imaging at the MET museum. This could all be innocent or these two could have assisted in Epstein’s hidden camera setup and helped Epstein get high quality pictures of his victims. We can’t be sure.
Hissom, Robert & Andrea: Robert is the founder of Aspen Capital Partners, a large property management firm. He is a friend of Prince Charles. His ex-wife, Andrea, famously got remarried to Steve Wynn, billionaire Las Vegas hotel tycoon. Prince Harry was a guest of Wynn’s at his Encore resort. Rosamund Holland-Martin (nee Hornby) was related to Charles Hornby, a British socialite and close friend of Prince Charles, who was sentenced to 2 ½ years for luring young runaway boys into prostitution, indecent assault, importuning, and living off the earnings of prostitution (source:,2085303). Ben is also good friends with Hetty Hoffman (mentioned above), who is an ambassador for Zoe’s Place Baby Hospice.
Hollond Mr & Mrs James: James is a partner at EFP Capital, an investment and advisory firm. James’s mother married Baron Robert Rothschild after her and James’s father divorced. 2020.06.19 00:51 myweithisway [KDRAMA 101] Crash Course on Korean Honorifics System (Intro + Vocab)

Welcome to the fifth post in our KDRAMA 101 series! This time we are introducing the Korean honorifics system in the Korean language. The post is split into two parts, the first part is an introduction with a "cheat sheet" on distinguishing between different honorific markers and their use/significance. The second part covers honorific vocabulary. Subsequent posts will cover speech levels (addressee honorifics), forms of address, and kinship terms in greater detail. We hope you find this information helpful!

Intro + "Cheat Sheet"

Hierarchy is very important in Korean culture and the Korean language reflects that through its complex honorifics system, the proper use of which is crucial for all social interactions. The Korean honorifics system is comprised of both specialized vocabulary and grammar rules, the most famous being its speech levels (also known as addressee honorifics; distinctive sentence enders). The use of the honorifics system conveys important information about the context of the speech and the speaker’s relationship with the subject (referent) and the listener (addressee) of the speech. The relationship indicated can be based on a variety of factors such as age, gender, social status, and degree of intimacy.
Below is a rough guide ("cheat sheet") to honorific markers in Korean and their significance.
When discussing Korean speech levels in Korean, there are usually two categories used: 존댓말 (jondaemal) and 반말 (banmal).
  • 존댓말 (jondaemal) is honorific speech (also called polite speech), which includes both the deferential and the polite speech levels, and indicates that the speaker views the listener with respect and is honoring the listener. 존대 (jondae) literally means respect.
  • 반말 (banmal) is non-honorific speech (also called impolite speech), which includes both the plain and the intimate speech level. 반말 (banmal) can be literally translated as half-speech.
2 Important Things To Remember
A speaker may use a mix of different speech levels when interacting with the same person within a given situation.
No speech level is polite or impolite in all situations; the context and intent of the speaker is the ultimate determinator of intended meaning. (In other words: sarcasm exists.)
When You Hear ~ᄇ니다 ~ᄇ니까? ~ᄇ시오 ~ᄇ시다
{ ~pnida ~pnikka? ~psio ~psida }
Speech Level: Deferential (Honorific)
Used When:
  • Public or formal discourse such as in broadcasting or conference presentations
  • Addressing the public
  • When a subordinate addresses a superior in a formal situation
When You Hear ~요 (~yo)
Speech Level: Polite (Honorific)
Used When:
  • Addressing someone of senior status in casual, non-formal, and everyday types of conversations
  • Addressing someone who is an equal, based on factors such as age/status/poweetc. (coworkers, acquaintances, classmates, etc.)
  • Between strangers
  • Addressing someone older
  • In a new relationship (friendship/dating)
When You Hear ~다 ~니/냐? ~라 ~자
{ ~da ~ni?/nya? ~ra ~ja }
Speech Level: Plain (Non-honorific)
Used When:
  • In written form for nonspecific listeners (books, magazines, etc.)
  • When a superior addresses a subordinate
  • Addressing someone younger in casual situations but may not be super close
  • Addressing close friends or otherwise agreed to by both parties (includes dating relationships)
When You Hear ~어/아 ( ~eo/a)
Speech Level: Intimate (Non-honorific)
Used When:
  • Between close friends of similar age
  • Between family members
  • When an elder addresses a child
When You Hear ~님 (~nim) and 씨 (~ssi)
  • ~nim and ~ssi are honorific title suffixes, used to show respect by the speaker for the person who’s name/job title is modified with the suffix.
  • ~nim shows the most respect and can be added directly to names or job titles with or without the surname (used to distinguish when multiple people hold the same position).
  • ~ssi can only be added to names, not job titles. Can be attached to full name (more formal/less intimate), only the given name (less formal/more intimate), or just the surname (implies the addressee is of lower social position).
When You Hear 나 (na) and 우리 (uri) for I/Me and Us
  • Used when speaker and listener are relatively equal to each other or are close to each other.
  • Generally not used in formal situations.
When You Hear 저 (jeo) and 저희 (jeohui) for I/Me and Us
  • Used when the listener is of superior status or when speaking with strangers.
  • Used often in formal situations.

Honorific Vocabulary

Only a small portion of vocabulary have alternative honorific terms. For all others, it is possible to modify the term with honorific markers, such as suffixes, in order to yield the honorific form of the term. In general, these alternative honorific terms are used with older people or in formal situations. They are generally not used with younger people or children. The table below lists the some commonly used alternative honorific terms and their corresponding plain forms.
Meaning Plain Term Honorific Term
meal 진지
birthday 생일 생신
age 나이 연세
name 이름 성함
speech/word 말씀
wife 아내 부인
to eat 먹다 잡수시다
to sleep 자다 주무시다
to exist 있다 계시다
to die 죽다 돌아가시다
밥을 먹다 is the general expression for to eat a meal while 진지를 잡수시다 is the honorific expression.
(Note: Both sentences use the plain speech level (-다 suffix) because they are in written form and were written for nonspecific listeners.)

2020.05.31 21:59 Buff-Executioner [NEXT LEVEL EFFORT POST] Innovative gamemode for Clash Royale - could change the entire future of the game Idea

“DeckChallanger” - Worked on this for two months… Lets go:

Incorporates deckbuilding and poker-ish strategy thinking
But also: ability to bluff, surprise and outsmart your opponent.

Purpose: To enhance the tension before the game, and get at the same time rid of the “rock, paper, scissor”-problem. Either a CR game can look like this: Two players select without any regulations - thus, it is completely random - each one a respective deck. The only tension created, comes from the fact that the two players have no idea what deck they are facing. This often results in unfair matchups, where the winner is already decided from the first 1-2 minutes of the game.
So... if the matchups already are made in a random way:
→ why not make the <> a bigger part of the game...?

This gamemode will make everything more challenging and diverse on a level never ever seen before - and fun at the same time - and not only fun.
But a ridiculous level of fun with new and fresh mechanics, that will never seem to get old and boring.
[I think this gamemode even could awake CR from the dead]
The gamemode is that good.
And guess what? I don't care about the money! I could probably sell this idea, but no. I want to share it with the community. Because I love Clash Royale gameplay, but the peak potential of the game is so far away. This gamemode would take the CR experience from a 2/10 of its possible ”game potential”
  • to a staggering 10/10, if not 11/10... (imo) Every day a week, this gamemode would never ever get boring:
So... let's explain this, and stop talking:

- A luck based wheel decides the two decks facing off eachother, a primary and a secondary time
- Before the wheel is spinned, both players has to select one wincon (one circle sector) each, that gets banned from the wheel in their match
- Each sector in the circle is consisting of every win condition (or perhaps another regulation that will challenge the player to build a deck: like ”5.0 or more” or ”2.5 or less” and so on (and for these special ones, the advantage is the the player gets to pick the win condition by himself, but has to compensate that by getting around the challenge of the regulation)
- Then you build your deck from an empty cardslot-interface, from the ground up.
- Every win condition has a group called ”hardcounters”. Since the player knows the opponents win con (in the case of that regulation) - he can pick a hardcounter that fits with his deck - his regulation - but also hard counters the wincon from the opponent
- If a ”neutral” wincon gets selected, like the Pekka or Mega knight, a maximum of 1 ”firsthand” win con can be added
- Also, the miner, skeleton barrel and rocket (I could have forgotten someone) has a special category as ”secondary win conditions”, and can be added to any win condition, but max 1 of them
- All of the other cards can be chosen when building the deck
If matchup is defined as ”advantage to one player” - For example [ballon - ramrider]
—> the player in disadvantage gets to pick two hardcouters, while the one in matchup advantage only get to picks one hard counter for the opposing wincon
Max 2 small spells (not tornado, including royal delivery)
Max 1 big spell (including EQ)
And ofcourse - Max one hardcounter to wincondition (if defined as equal matchup)
When you have built your decks, you lock them in. Then you have to show 1 of your cards to the opponent. You can pick by yourself what card to show the opponent. Here lots of different strategies will develop, for example: bluffs, surprises or to just outsmart your opponent into thinking you have a deck that you may not use, different strategies and of course reversed psychology. Then you get the ability to change two cards in your locked deck, but only two. But the card you show and your wincon, are locked, and cannot be changed.
Then the same thing happens to the other player.
This interchange of cards happens one time, and then a second time - showing your opponent a total of 2 free cards plus your given win con.
(The card you choose to show is automatically locked, and very much like your given win condition, can not be interchanged.)
Then the decks are finished! This adds up to the tension before the game like never before, and creates a whole new level of strategy. Instead of just saying ”of well, this is an unfair matchup. What a shame.”
  • That part of defining how the matchup is random, is now THE defining part of the game that makes it so interesting.
There is so much potential to be captured here. Really note that.
This maybe even could bring CR back from the dead, and enhance the esport side of the game, but LIKE A SHIT TON. This not only makes the game more developed and skilled in a new way for the pros, but also gives viewers a new level of curiousness and tension as a part of every game, instead of just players picking a meta deck from some of the few viable archetypes in the current meta, and then it is pretty much rock paper scissor to see which one wins, because:
  • matchup advantage is almost 100% defining the winning player today, in CR:s current system, when unfair matchups alline
So, ultimately this makes the matchup less ”rock paper scissor”, that is Clash royales biggest problem right now. Players would have to not only need a skill to build good decks, but be prepared for anything, and create strategies for their own new deck, tailored for the opposing deck AT THE LIVE TIME as the game is played
  • That requires <> skill.
The level of skill in E-sport with this gamemode would be on a whole other new level - that's some good entertainment, let me tell you.

- It creates a challenge for both opponents, that they need to solve with their <>
Skill 1.
+It is up to the players SKILL to first build a deck that counters it in a FAIR way (with all the rules)+
Skill 2.
++And finish the game with even more skill to create real time epic strategies in game, tailored for that specific matchup++
[I can guarantee you that this will create results, like when someone has the advantage in matchmaking defined by their wincon - but still wins a CR game because of the deckbuilding skill and real time strategy combined with quick reaction and precision gameplay.]
—> this would be a new level of CRL entertainment (but also as a Casual/Competitive mode IN the game for normal casual players)
Also, since every wincon will be inte the game, you can't get a weak card. That would not be fair. So ebarbs for example. They are too weak on ladder - well, buff them to the viable point in this particular gamemode. But jezzz. Don't screw it up SC, have a separate feed of this gamemode-balances, and survey how cards are performing. This gamemode needs to have every wincon that is on the wheel, 100% balanced.

*Sidenote* - SCROLL PAST IF NOT INTERESTED, it is not relevant to the gamemode!
(logical preposition for ebarbs when we're at it:)
Motivation: “ ebarbs could be used as a counter pushing card, that's effective on defense, and after; be used in a counter attack. One problem today is their health, they die easily. And, since they are whole 6 elixir today, it is hard to combine other cards with them, to support them while active in game (Like ice golems, ice spirit etc). Therefore, make them 5 elixir (IN ONLY THIS GAMEMODE), but set their crown tower damage to 40 - 60 % of their normal damage - since they need to be able and two-shot ranged support troops like wizards and musks, because it is one of their main interactions (They have a slow hitspeed, but when they do get their shot in, they are effective, and can quickly move on to a different target, like a giant) . This way, if an ebarb gets to you tower, it won't punish you as much, and the ebarbs can easily be killed on offence, since they have such low HP - if the opponent doesn't support them with more elixir”
I´m just using common sense here guys, don't be hard on me. But I think that would make ebards more of a card that has a place in the game, an ideal way to use them effectively, that every card should have a clear definition of: Like most other cards. Right now, ebarbs have too many things that they are good at, and way too many things they suck at. This idealized concept of them, would actually make them quite unique in the game, and add a new nuance to the possible card-choices for counterpunching tank killers. The other problem is also that they are way too rewarding when reaching the tower - but also way too undervalued when used on defence - since they die so easily, and bam: 6 elixir down the drain, and you can't support them with other cards, because of their high cost.
→ Therefore it could be tried to see what happens if they cost 5 elixir, and had reduced crown tower damage. If they are to strong, lower their HP to balance out the question of how hard it should be to kill them
If you are not using this thinking process when balancing cards already SC (cause of your history, lol XD), maybe take some inspiration: because I have a strong belief, in that [Every card in the game has a place, and can get balanced. There are no such things as: “Bad designed cards”, that just a sad excuse] - imo
*Sidenote finished*

This would basically be the peak of CR potential - if we get this gamemode in the game - or at least in CRL... imagine this, instead of 2v2. (If you have lost track, read the paragraph over the sidenote again”)
The purpose of this gamemode is to enhance the player's ability of deckbuilding, incorporated into the gameplay. The player also has to know what cards fit good with exactly every archetype. This gamemode would make for an extremely DIVERSE and always FRESH and SURPRISING gameplay, never seen the likes of in CR history. That's of course depending on the pros innovative skills… and them skills bro… they will most certainly create a good basis for this.
This is the gamemode that I think everyone wants, including the developers of Clash Royale. They have always been nagging about making a gamemode, that is more
  • diverse
  • and has deckbuilding as a bigger part of the game itself
The gamemode would also be extremely, EXTREMELY entertaining to BOTH:
- watch, for example CRL, because we would get to see what cards they are picking, and see their strategy - made under pressure and small timeframes. This would add soooo much content to commentary for the casters. Extremely interesting. Pros have to be wearing soundproof headphones, we also need to check microphone-cheating way more in this case of gamemode - since the audience knows the decks that are facing off - but the players don't. They only know 3 of each others cards
- Or as a gamemode in Clash Royale, live time with random players. Imagine playing this, as a casual gamemode, or as a separate ladder with kingtower level brackets... (*orgasm*)
The ”balance-rules” of this gamemode would be :
- ”what cards are defined as hardcounters to each wincon?”
- ”What matchups are defined as; advantage - to one of the wincons facing each other?”
The cards in each group could be a subject to change, very much like the balance changes each month. It gets better and better the more we get experienced within the gamemode
TELL ME WHAT YOU THINK REDDIT! I can't wait to hear your thoughts. Let's make Drew of Seth hear this. We could be changing the way CR is played

This mode - could be a new "competetive ladder" bracket. SERIOUSLY.
(Like you just read way less than half of the total text:)
Main notes:
- Supercell needs a healthy relationship with their playerbase (They don't really have that now)
- The player should be offered a small piece - a limited, but still fair opportunity- of the beautiful game they are working on - for <>
And theeeen...
- If the players tries it, loves it, and decides - “I WANT MORE, I think the money is worth it” , that's when you as a free-to-play game developer offer the player a less limited offer, for real money - for example a pass royale with mer premium features (Still not changing the game mechanics tho, just progression, but not in pay to win way. In a “Pay to experience less grind”- way) You´ll understand more soon!
That is a healthy way to make money. You as a free to play game developer should give players the <>, and if you make a damn good job - you should automatically get more money, BUT IN A FAIR AND HONORABLE WAY
The system SC today uses in today's ladder, with pay to win walls from the gem-currency:
- That has to be the worst business model to make money on a free to play game.
That's a fact. It doesn't matter how much supercell has made from these games, they could have easily made way more with a more healthy business model.
But... there is hope! Because, with this gamemode, I would stand by the opinion to say:
- Clash Royale would not only be the BEST mobile game ever made
- But perhaps, one of the best games ever made on this planet.
—> but supercell doesn't see it
However - I do.
With my vision for supercell though, if I were in charge: I would incorporate this gamemode, in a <> way with the pass royale each month if they give me this kind of freedom and gameplay opportunities - and a need to grind less.
—> I would pay for that pass royale. That's how much fun I think CR is
So let me present the business model:
- FREE CHOICE: 5 free daily matches on this gamemode. You get 5 new ones every 24 hours, and if you can't play for 1 day, there is a bank that can store a maximum of 10 matches
THIS IS LIMITED - but free. You get the taste of brilliance and entertainment
- PREMIUM CHOICE: 15 battles every day, and banks that store up to 3 days of not playing - 45 battles capacity. (This would be the current passroyale)
THIS IS FOR THE ENTHUSIAST. If you have a good logistic when playing - this will be enough for anyone - for a small monthly fee (the same value as a cheap lunch in town - is CR DeckChallanger worth that to you, personally?
- UNLIMITED CHOICE: a new more expensive version of pass royale, like ”legendary pass” gives you an unlimited amount of matches.
THE HOLY GRAIL. No boundaries. Infinite fun.
*More in depth:*
You get the mode in lv 9. But when you start over for each season, you get to CHOOSE what kingtower leauge you wanna play in: if you are king tower 12 for example, you can't access the lv 13 league, but can choose between king lv 9 all the way to lv 12.
If you choose lv 9, you will have a better opportunity to level up most of the cards you will use in the game when building the diverse possible amount of decks. Since versatility is key, this will improve your chances to perform and reach higher. In lv 9 league, the seasonal end rewards are the lowest point in the pair of leagues, though. So you have to compensate for: FairPlay- and The size of rewards
Then again, if you are in kingtower lv 12, and have most of the card you still will do fine with, at lv 11 and some at lv 10 → Then maybe, it is worth the sacrifice of lowering the FairPlay to king tower league 11, but increasing the potential rewards - as you progress on the global leaderboard for your bracket.
Each season you pick what kingtower leauge you wanna bet on.
(The more wins you have, the higher you get on the GLOBAL leaderboard for your separate king tower league. If this is a trophy system or just K/D, it's up to supercell to decide, or you guys on reddit.)
I prefer the good old trophy system, and then we incorporate your highest ever reached trophy number on OLD LADDER, to define the starting place you will have in your kingtower bracket. Therefore, you will get an advantage if you are high on ladder - which is heavily dependent on spending money on the game via supercell’s current method, so that you need to, agan:
Spend money on the game - and SC gives you advantages in fair ways - which makes supercell sustainable money making company
- still because of this game mode.
This system will also not compete with ladder, since you won't be having “Your own deck”. This gamemode will hover ever be a method, to get more resources, to upgrade your cards for the normal ladder - that the current supercell-business model for making money, is in charge for.
So the higher card levels you have, the easier it gets to have more cards in higher levels - to compete in leagues with higher rewards - and again:
  • spending money on the game gives you an advantage to progression
BUT! The player WHO WANTS to play CR fair play, can still do that with a fair-cost passroyale and in lv 9 - with low rewards, but again: with fair play.
If you on the last hand thought, do completely fine with only 5 matches a day (or how many SC would evaluate that to be sustainable for them), then you don't even need the pass, but:
  • you will start way lower in your king tower league each month
  • have to push for longer ro reach the competition of your skill level
  • the rewards are crappy
  • thus is a disadvantage in ambition, energy consumption and time, but it is still
FAIR PLAY. AND FAIR LEVELS when doing the grind. The frustration being created, will be way different than the one on ladder. That feels like just pure pain ass bullying… to be real here.
If you want to do that extra work, do that good old grind, IT SHOULD BE UP TO YOU, THE PLAYER,
  • If you feel like skipping that extra work is worth a pass royale to earn more gold, play more matcher every day, to upgrade more of your cards, to reach higher ladder records, get better starting place - and finally be able to progress <>
    • to compete in higher leagues for more rewards
- that´s in this business model - up for you, and ONLY for you to decide.
My last wish or idea is to have live spectating on top 500 on each of these king tower brackets, where live matches are in a little interface, so that you also easily can find the live ones. This way:
  • You can just log in to CR, play a few games, but then if (lol, WHEN) you get frustrated
chill and watch a few pros play, get inspired - and then get in the game again with that new motivation and focus!
THIS IS WHAT CR NEEDS TO STAY ALIVE, and not in a few months, or a year,
Supercell, spend the work on this, instead of making amazing looking new arenas every month that we then throw away and never see again...
We have plenty of arenas now! Save yourself that work, vary insead between the beautiful 15-25 arenas we now have (why not have some lower season arenas a few times a year? That would still be refreshing for the +4000 trophies players)
  • All while developing this system instead. I also think this tops the clan wars update, but if you could start working on this as the next project after the CW update, that would be amazing.
And I mean... the work that needs to be done, are just a couple of interfaces that take care of the logistical system. No new arena. No new animation with cards. No boats or whatever the huge and complex stuff that you have worked on in the new update.
THIS IS VERY SIMPLE COMPARED TO THAT —> and still... still this would be so much more:
  • Grade of how healthy the relationship is with your playerbase
  • Money income, on a predictionable and regular basis each month with the increase of passroyale purchases
Let's leave that for now, and look at this idea I have… for the community in Clash Royale:
Shoutout to LEGENDARAY! I know you are reading this, if my comment gets upvoted ;) been watching you and your creative ideas for over a year now. Been there since like 12k subs- so you kind of owe me not just this- but all of your subs, and everyone else in the world:
  • that loves Clash royale, but doesnt play it any more because it is so far off its maximum potential of being a both FAIR, COST FRIENDLY and FUN game
To Legendaray:
If you see the same potential in this gamemode as I do, please make a Concept video of it. Both explain, and literally play it with one of your friends or co-lab with other youtubers - for example KFC (would be awesome)
(This is possible, because the gamemode is so simple to develop. It is just basic logistics)
You are studying engineering, very much like I want to do (just finished high school baby, and I got into design engineering - my dream - in Sweden!) - so I know that you not only this, but do this . Damn good.
Together with my idea, innovative skills and ability to make a well thought out basic described concept - combined with your videoskills, problem solving-ability AND your youtube channel that has blown up recently...
We. Can. Change. CR. Forever.
I mean this dude. That's why I'm hyping this up...
We can not only make an awesome concept and create some excellent content for you channel:
But we can spread this to a whole other and new level than never ever possible before. (Cuz you are very smart, and have a youtube channel AND looks at reddit!! All at the same time.)
It is meant to be
Here is how you (or anyone else that feels entruiged) - can do it.
- Make a virtual luck based spinning wheel, or a physical one (that would be AWESOME) with every win condition and/or also with other types of regulations the deck should be built around (for example [5.0 or more]) - on all of the many circles sectors on the ”spin the wheel” like wheel-thingy
- Then you spin the wheel, and see where it stops *intense thrilling musicccc*
- Switch to the deck building interface with empty cardholders (the wood thing-slots), and have a small animation that locks the wincon that got chosen by the wheel, for example: ram rider
- Then the same thing happens again to the other player
- now the players vote for how long they wanna build. Tryhards will go for the lowest allowed, like 10-20 sec, but noone will be able to pick a maximum of... hmm lets say 40 sec. The middle point between the votes, decides the time both players have to build their decks
- A timer starts ticking down : 3, 2, 1, START BUILDING! *creative, intense music*
Display both players at the same time. For each player: Facecam, Mobile cam, card collection of the hardcounters you can use one of, spells, ground attackers ect. All the categories in a pedagogic way to more easily build a deck, and display at last a separate 8-slot card holder that shows the deck´s cards being inputted over time.
- The less time you have to build a deck, adds to the skill of having diverse knowledge within every win condition, thus: what cards fit ”in the current meta”. (Haha I always hear your voice there) You really have to be up to date with the cards that will fit with any wincon or archetype
- Time stops. If you do not make it in time, the remaining card slots will get a random card.
- The first player gets 10 sec to pick a card to show.
- The card is shown to the other player in 3, 2, 1, GO
- The other player (he is named player 2 from now on) gets 15 sec to change two of his cards 7 cards.
- Then player 2 gets 5 sec to decide what card to show: 3, 2, 1, GO
- player 1 gets to change 2 out of his 6 cards, since the one that he exposed earlier is ofcourse locked
- Then, player 2 again gets to show one card again, because that is more fair. (If you do not get that, think again.) Anyway - the same thing happens again, but he also has only 6 cards to choose from.
- At last, player 2 gets his last, and second chance to change two of his cards.
If anyone plays poker, you should be noting the vibes right about now;)
- and that's it! That's how you can make a fun concept video of how this game mode works, and then actually play. We don't need supercell to check if this is fun!
Us, we in the community can do that by ourselves, and then publish it on Legendarys channel, to get feedback on if this is something the game wants.
Together we can do some amazing stuff guys! Lets change Clash Royale forever, together! They can't ignore us if we do this really well. And if we really want this, then use that motivation to really get this concept video top notch Legendaray-quality.
Let's continue on the gameconcept a bit more thought, got some more ideas:
Now the match plays out much like any other, but you know 3 of the opponents cards, and you also know [that your opponent knows] 3 of your card in the deck, and you know which one you have showed (if you have a normal IQ memory)
The last thing you <> to the concept, is to add a crowd and commentators to this. Try to see how that works out. Let the casters have a prep talk about the players:
for example: (I'm trying to add some bad humor in to this - so that is is just like the CRL we all love)
”Hello and welcome to CRL west, spring 2020! This day we will be starting off by talking about our week top crl player, KFC, that will be kicking off the season today in just a couple of minutes.”
(KFC is a content creator known for making a fool of himself - for entertainment)
- Yes that's right [other casters name] KFC is looking real focused down there, but hey! Now he is looking at us, and he is still looking at us...? *5sec pass* now it is just weird - what are you doing down there KFC? *KFC smiled and says ”ha! Gotd you!” *But you can't hear him, only see him and his awkward gestures*
- Ooookey... anyway! At Least KFC is looking to be having a real fun time down there! So, KFC as I was about to tell you, is known for his lethal choice of quick deck building time frames to stress out his opponents, but always tends carefully select what cards to reveal in his deck - to lure and surprise his opponent with an innovative deckbuild”
- ”that's right [other casters name], in just s few minutes we will get to see him in action”
Wheel is spinned:
”And here we go! Kicking of the first spin of the day. [wheel spins] ohhh and it is looking to be... the ram rider!”
*Fill in the commentary between with some bullcrap here etc, you get it*
Player2-wheel spin:
”The second spinn of the season starts... now! This is going to be a good one, let me tell you that [casters name]. *other caster* ” That i for sure can reassure you of, because it is looking to be the Pekka!” ”What a way to kick off the season. It will be interesting to see how this matchup turns out...”
- Yes that's right my friend, you can just see the sheer tension in Legendarys face. He knows he's up for not only a deck building challenge, but also a real-time problem solving when playing to get his ramrider around that moma Pekka. He has got to outsmart him somehow…”
The deckbuilding begins:
”Oh, looks like KFC is going the other way today, with some conservative card revealing - While Ray on the other hand is surprising us by showing his big spell!” *surprised, chocked, stunned* —>*other caster* ”Yes that's right [casters name], that not something you see happen every day”
The match begins:
”Okay! Let's go, this match is looking like a real thrilling one, and the smile on Rays face actually seems to be making KFC nervous of what's to come” *other caster* ”to be honest, I have quite frankly never ever in my career of CRL - seen a pro player look that terrified as, KFC does right now.
Lets lean back, and have a good look at this game.”
After that, the rest is just like the already existing seasons of CRL...
- But! With waaay more entertainment, and possible outcome of amazing results, when pros wins - even when getting a matchup disadvantage in the beginning by the spinning wheel…
The end:
  • RICH! The ram rider is going to hit the tower!
AND THE RAMRIDER BREAKS THROUGH, and Legendaray comes out with a clutch victory, sniping the win from KFC with just a couple HP - despite the matchups disadvantage Ray’ received in the beginning of the match… What a staggering prestige from Legendarays side!
  • Yes my friend! That is som top notch Clash Royale gameplay right there, and this is just the beginning of CRL West spring 2020. For weeks to come, the show you now are watching will be filled with dussions and dussions of these kinds of matches, every, single, week. (Get the CRL exclusive membership for more content, green room and so much more...)
So ultimately:
”The skill in the new mode DeckChallanger, lies not perhaps in knowing a small amount of certain decks in the current meta very well, but rather in adaption to the situation, and therefore a good pro has to be very diverse and versatile - and good at finding creative ways to surprise and outsmart his opponents in real time gameplay:
—> in order to dominante in Deckchallanger 2020”
//Cheers again!

Second and last "quick" P.S
To supercell:
Please add this as soon as possible to the game - if you decide to go for it. Start with just a launch of a <> that has no ladder. Let us taste the game mode. Let us give you guys feedback. [Just a Casual - then it will require less work for you guys to let us try it out.]
If you, SC, already here start to see a noticeable increase of pass royales being bought, put the stakes ever higher on creating a separate ladder for this mode - to create a competitive feel.
That's when the money will start to pour in.

Trust me

Who am I?

This is what I do. And Clash Royale deserves it. I want no money,
  • just my god damn beautiful beloved game to reach its maximum potential, in a sustainable and healthy way; For both the players and its company developer.

(Why do I tell this down here? This late?) \sidenote**
  • If this post has gotten upvoted to reach high in the feed, it means that I have made it there in a fair and honorable way, just like anyone else that is anonymous on reddit. I presented my idea only, and captured the reader's attention all the way down here. I don't think it is relevant to know who I am, if my idea and concept doesn't speak for itself - of how frickin good it is.
That way, you guys get more critical to the idea (Anyone could have uploaded this) - but when you sit there, have read it all, trying to be critical but you can't really find a weak spot
  • Bam. Then this guy is not just some random kido - this guy deserves a bit of respect.

But… not just yet. Hehe (A lot of text down here for supercell, or anyone else that is interested in business, future technology and innovation)
note this supercell:
The idea and concept of DeckChallanger, is only
one of the
Ideas <> for Clash Royale. However…
  • This is the only one you will get for free.
  • And - this is not even the best one, this is just the one with the most:
  • favorable effect on the game, in the ratio of:
The need of money, work and energy to go from concept to practically working - in ratio to - The effect the finished concept has on the game.
This concept has the highest ratio in that aspect amongst my other ideas and concepts for CR.
Other than this concept - I have multiple ideas and visions for how we could completely change the general view of what Clash Royale is, and what it could become in the future…
If you decide to work on this game mode, launch it, and then notice the significant increase in Pass Royale purchases not only the first month, but keeps at a constant high throughout many months - <>
Hit me up. If one of my ideas made you that much money, just imagine how much money you would make if you got all of my ideas:
  • Both the Best ones, the more Huge ones and the Smaller ones. Try imagine what is inside my head, if this idea, the DeckChallanger, made you that much money
Therefore it might be smart to get my contact information right now already, if you guys decide to go for my concept gamemode.
I wouldn't be offering this to just any game. I only want to do this with Clash Royale, because this game is the only game I truly love, and have really deep knowledge in. After many years of playing with the innovative thinking process I have - I have not been able, to not, start developing ideas for the game. They have just appeared naturally.
So, if you decide to hit me up, what would I want in return?
**I tell you that in my other post**
So. That why I´m going to tease my <> top 2 ideas:
** They did not fit in this post. Go to my profile to see the other one (New account so I will only have two posts)**
Let's make a clear structure for the vision of for when new gamemodes gets added to the game, and what purpose they would be serving:
LADDER - The main mode. Play all day, choose your deck - but levels are unfair
  • You need a method to get more resources to upgrade your cards...
Beneath this main gamemode, there are other gamemodes to be played along side ladder, that when played - gives you resources - to upgrade the cards for the main mode: Ladder
Therefore since Ladder already is unfair - why ALWAYS make <> of the gamemodes supporting the main mode: ladder - also level dependent?
The list of supporting game modes:
  • Clanwars
  • Classic and Grand challenges (If we had tickets in chests, that would be nice.)
  • Special challenges
  • Global tournaments
My idea is to <> in game modes in this category, with the focus on Fair Play, and a Freedom to the player. The gamemode then offers a free version of its brilliance: And then it is up to the player if they want more → get a pass royale. That moral works fine with any human being that I have ever met.
  • But you can calmly respond with the obvious argument: “So <> the gamemode that gives you 5 free daily matches, and a bank of max 10 - is not free content? Isn't that <> that gets added to the game, in the supporting category to ladder - the main mode - to get more resources - to upgrade your cards?
Think about that. Anyway:
The category could look like this, If my ideas were added:
  • DeckChalllanger, bracket king tower level dependent seasonal leagues
  • A new Clan Wars system (This should still be completely free tho, only new modes get the new business model I am describing)
  • [Idea 3]
  • [Idea 4]
  • [Idea 5]
  • …..
And so on. (And don't forget my tease for the ESPORT side of Clash Royale…) (other post)
That is the direction I would want to be taking this game. Clash Royale has a business model that is out of date in the free to play gaming-world, today.
  • But it is not too late. Clash Royale is a beautiful game with huge potential, now after 4 in game years of development - A FRICKIN MASTERPIECE - and is more than possible to completely turn around and generate huge streams of income again/even more than before
All you need. Are the right ideas. Not the bad ones, not the average ones, not even the good ones:
  • But the necessary ones.
Remember one thing from this. This crazy, but passionate guy <> completely reimagine the definition of what Clash Royale is and its status from all over the world, and throughout all gaming-industries. The potential you can't see - I not only see, but know is there. You could also at the same time get a stake in the potential future world leading company of autonomy, delivering spherical wheels to the whole GLOBAL mobility market, in monopoly (Only we have the new technology, we develop it highly confidentially) for the first few years:
  • just by hitting me up.
Only remember that when you are on the cusp of ignoring this offer. That's all I ask for, along with you testing this gamemode out with your developers:
  • For the sake of everyone out there in our world: that absolutely loves Clash Royale.
And the gamemode… You're gonna absolutely love it.

Also: Watch this advertisement from Supercell, and think about my tease for the future of CRL esport
(You will look at it - from a whole new perspective…)
And finish things off with this one above.
  • Now you get the idea, so take that imagination, and look at this CRL 2020 spring first episode. Fast forward the first 5 minutes.
Do you guys see how polished CRL has become now? How it feels, like <>? (Despite the corona pandemic that took away the studio the casters are in, and the OGN arena. The feel of CRL is there, ands it’s real)
Then imagine that (The beautiful 3D environment graphics and special effects) with the [number 1 and number 2] problems solved (that I presented earlier), and combine that version of how CR is played (for example DeckChallanger) - with the excellent format CRL now has developed, to be a real established esport that feels totally REAL, although it is all virtual.
It is all about perspective. To open your eyes. To start dreaming.

Kind regards: Nils Bjerger

2020.04.21 16:26 BenedictXIII_BLACK UNSOLVED: Who was Bible John?

I have had a lot of spare time on my hands recently and so I thought I would write about a case that has long interested me. I've tried to include links where possible, though the post can be read without clicking any. This is a case never far from the media's eye in Britain, seldom a year goes by without a new theory or book. But the police are no closer to an arrest, and the families no closer to any resolution - and with over 50 years having past since the murders the chances of ever apprehending or even identifying the culprit appear incredibly slim.
This post is about the serial killer known as 'Bible John'. He is believed to have killed three women in 1968-69. The murders took place in the city of Glasgow, Scotland in the United Kingdom. Despite a large-scale police investigation at the time and the continued media interest, the killer has never been caught. There is a prominent suspect however, a man already convicted of multiple murders, Peter Tobin. But is Tobin really a viable suspect?
Serial killers are given scary and oftentimes inappropriate monikers by the media and this case is no exception. 'Bible John' whilst sounding undeniably sinister, perhaps also conjures images of a religiously motivated killer - though 'John' was not religiously motivated. His crimes were carnal - and so consequently I wish to state at the outset of the post; the crimes detailed here are of a sexually violent nature.
---22nd/23rd February 1968 - Glasgow, Scotland---
Patricia Docker, a 25 year old nurse, tells her family that she is going out dancing that evening. Initially, she had visited the Majestic Ballroom but at some point during the evening had travelled to another ballroom, the Barrowland Ballroom. It's thought she went to attend the Over-25s night the club hosted on Thursdays. The Barrowland Ballroom is a key location in the three homicides - and this iconic building is still in use as a music venue to this day. And it is here where Patricia is believed to have met her killer.
The next morning Patricia does not return home to her parents, where she and her four year old son lived. The house is a few miles south of the city centre (where the ballrooms are located). Her parents call the police to report her missing, sadly unaware that only a few streets away their daughter had been found brutally murdered.
Patricia's body is found by a man walking to work early on the morning of the 23rd. She had been sexually assaulted, and when found was wearing nothing but a shoe. The postmortem determines she has been strangled with some kind of ligature, but only after having been repeatedly punched and/or kicked. Patricia had also been menstruating at the time of her murder.
Also, Patricia's handbag and her clothes (a grey coat with fur collar and a yellow dress) were missing. The handbag was found at a later point - it appeared it had been dumped in the River Cart, a tributary of the Clyde. Though the clothes are never located.
Despite police attempts to trace who Patricia was with that evening, the investigation isn't able to identify him. They were able to find some witnesses - one reported they saw Patricia with a handsome man with red hair but ultimately this came to nothing and they were unable to locate the man.
---16th/17th August 1969 - Glasgow, Scotland---
Jemima McDonald, a 32 year old mother of three, goes out dancing at the Barrowland Ballroom. When there she is reported to have struck up conversation with a man with dark brown hair, said to be between 25 and 35 years of age, and between 6 foot and 6"2. He is thought to have a Glaswegian accent.
Shortly after midnight, Jemima leaves the Barrowland Ballroom in the company of this man. She is last seen walking in the general direction of her house.
Jemima had a sister, Margaret who was looking after Jemima's children. When her sister failed to return by the following evening, Margaret started to really worry. Furthermore, a disturbing bit of gossip was doing the rounds - some local children had been talking, they said there was a dead body in a nearby derelict building. On Monday morning, Margaret went to see if the rumours were true. Face down, with her clothes torn, strangled and beaten was Jemima.
The police believed she had been there since the very early hours of Sunday morning. Like the previous victim Patricia Docker - Jemima McDonald had been raped and battered about the head. Again, she was just yards from home when the attack took place. Jemima had been menstruating.
Despite the apparent multiple similarities, the police did not immediately link the first murder to the second, which was 18 months later. And so the Jemima McDonald investigation was separate from the now quite cold investigation of Patricia Docker's murder. Scotland had seen a serial killer before in Peter Manuel - who had been convicted of multiple murders and hanged in 1958. But much of the behavioural insight we take for granted was not in police circulation in 1968. The pioneers of the FBI's Behavioural Science Unit start work in 1972 - and so while the failing to link the homicides earlier looks bad in hindsight, it's possibly understandable in the context of the era.
At length the police started to think that the same man was responsible for both murders leading them once again look into the circumstances of Patricia Docker's murder. The similarities are surely striking regardless of the level of psychological insight. Both women were found sexually assaulted, strangled and beaten just yards from their homes - both had attended the same ballroom - both were menstruating - and both had their handbags taken from the scene. Furthermore, no effort was made to conceal the bodies, nor their modesty.
Despite not intially linking the murders, both were however investigated thoroughly. Many of the police officers have spoken over the years about their involvement in the investigation and they all appear hardworking, honest, and selfless - often expressing a deep regret for having never caught the man responsible. The police interviewed hundreds of possible witnesses. And even put undercover officers in the Barrowland Ballroom - but after a few weeks this strategy was re-thought. The club's owners were pressuring the police. Takings were down. The operation demanded a lot of man power. And they had garnered no new leads. The police ended their surveillance near the end of October.
---30th/31st October 1969 - Glasgow, Scotland---
Helen Puttock and her sister Jean Langford went to the Barrowland. It was Saturday, the other night of the week the ballroom dedicated to the Over 25s. At some point in the evening the two sisters joined up with two men; both calling themselves John. One was a slateroofer and was from the part of Glasgow called Castlemilk. The other 'John' did not mention where he came from, he was well-spoken and gentlemanly. It's from Jean Langford where we get much of our information regarding the appearance and mannerisms of Bible John. While the four were still in the Barrowland, there was an incident involving a cigarette dispenser. The machine swallowed some coins causing 'Bible John' to loose his temper and demand to speak to the manager. This outburst seemed out of keeping with his general demeanour and well-heeled affect. And it is due to this outburst that some staff at the club recalled the man and were able to provide a description of him; though the description does not really tally with the one later provided by Jean.
After chatting and dancing for an hour, the four depart the Barrowland. The John from Castlemilk was the first to leave the group. He walked to a nearby bus station - leaving Helen, Jean, and Bible John to hail a taxi. The three talked. Jean noticed he had an overlapped tooth in the front of his smile. His hands did not appear weathered or worn. He smoked Embassy brand cigarettes. He wore a watch, a style where the leather strap ran under the actual watch face thought to be popular with military servicemen. He was well-spoken, and commented he was teetotal. He claimed to pray during Hogmanay (New Year's Eve). He bragged of a cousin who scored a hole in one playing golf. He possessed a knowledge of train services that operated in the north of the city. And most enduringly, he would occasionally intersperse Biblical stories or allusion in the conversation. Jean seemed to recall he said his name was John Semple...Sempleson...Templeton...Emerson or something to that effect.
A short time later, Jean had reached her destination and left the taxi. Events from this point on are obviously murky as the only witnesses now are Helen, her killer, and the taxi driver. It would seem the taxi driver did not quite know where he was going and in frustration, Helen leaves the taxi. 'John' hurriedly pays the taxi driver and walks after Helen, putting his hands on her shoulders. The taxi driver thinks they might be an arguing couple and drives off. The police trace the driver and learn the location of where the pair had left the taxi. John from Castlemilk was never located, and nor has he ever come forward.
Helen's body is found in the back garden of her flat, on the morning of the 31st by a man walking his dog. She is partially clothed and has been strangled with her stockings. The contents of her handbag lay scattered, though the bag itself is missing. Like the previous victims, she was menstruating (the sanitary towel had been tucked under her arm by the killer) and like the previous women had suffered numerous blows to the head and face. There was also a bite wound to her thigh.
Later that night, a man who could be Bible John is seen by a bus conductor and driver at around 2am. This man looked dishevelled, with a scratch mark on his face. He was heading in the direction of the River Clyde ferry.
The investigation was headed by Detective Superintendent Joe Beattie. He oversaw an investigation of nearly 100 detectives that went on to interview over 5000 suspects. Following the murder of Helen Puttock, undercover detectives were once again deployed at the Barrowland Ballroom.
In terms of a description of the killer, there appears to be some disagreement. Some staff at the Barrowland who claimed to have seen the man state he was under 6 foot and had dark brown hair. Jean Langford, who had spent time in the company of the man, had a slightly different account. She said the man had fair reddish hair. And witnesses who came forward in the light of the first murder of Jemima McDonald thought the man was at least 6 foot. I suppose what this shows is what many already know; eyewitness reports can be very unreliable.
Nowadays, the police are aware of the likely variation in eyewitness accounts and there are numerous psychology papers exploring this topic. However, the police officer in charge of the investigation, Joe Beattie didn't seemingly take into account the variations in testimony. He drilled down on Jean's description. He believed that she would remember the man and his features better than anyone else. And he may have been right. But this exclusive focus on Jean's description lead to Beattie believing he would 'know' Bible John when he saw him. And so when Beattie would look through photos of potential suspects, he would often immediately discount them on the basis the photo did not align sufficiently with his own 'image' of Bible John.
A tutor at the Glasgow School of Art created a composite painting of the suspect at the request of Beattie and with guidance from Jean. This image of a slim, clean shaven red headed man with pale blue eyes and blank expression is the image most associate with the case. Again, it has been commented that this composite painting may have hindered the investigation as the painting was too specific and so suspects were ruled out on the basis they did not really look enough like the composite.
The investigation collected almost 50k witness statements. Police worked diligently on door to door inquiries. They investigated the possibility the suspect was in the armed services - his description was circulated to British forces bases worldwide.
If the revelations of the 2013 book 'Dancing with the Devil' are true, Joe Beattie came to think the killer could have been a police officer, but was discouraged from further investigating this line of inquiry by a number of more senior police officers. The book is written by Paul Harrison, a former police officer and liaison of the FBI's Behavioural Analysis Unit. In the book, Harrison makes a number of disturbing claims including that many nightclub doormen suspected a police officer was Bible John.
Ultimately despite the massive investigation, the case went cold. In 1996, the police exhumed a man, John Irvine McInnes. He had committed suicide in 1980. Police wanted to compare his DNA to semen found on the tights of Helen Puttock. The test came back inconclusive. And McInnes was cleared of any suspected involvement. I have read conflicting accounts of how McInnes came to be involved in the investigation; some reports state he had been investigated at the time of the murders, other accounts state his cousin was investigated at the time of the murders. Also, it appears a psychologist felt McInnes manner of suicide was unusual and made a claim that a man who could kill himself in such a manner could be a killer. I am not a psychologist but this seems like a reach. John Irvine McInnes remained the police's top suspect for many years, until a more likely candidate emerged.
This post is long enough without going into too much detail about Peter Tobin. He currently resides at HMP Edinburgh - he serves at Her Majesty's pleasure and will die in prison. Suffice to say, he is a truly terrible person. He has been found guilty of three murders, all of young women. He had also been previously imprisoned for the rape of two minors - and served just 10 years for these offences. Indeed after his release, Tobin would go on to murder Angelika Kluk, a 23 year old student from Poland.
In 2006 Peter Tobin - going by an alias, Pat McLaughlin - was working in a church undertaking various small maintenance jobs. The church was St Patrick's Roman Catholic Church, and it is located in Anderston, Glasgow. Angelika Kluk was a student who also worked part time as a cleaner at this church. On the 24th September 2006, Tobin attacked Angelika whist the two were alone in the church. She was beaten, raped, and stabbed. Tobin concealed her body underneath floorboards in the church. It is thought she was still alive at this point. The police catch up with Tobin in London - again he's using a yet another alias. He had admitted himself to hospital complaining of chest pains.
Tobin is found guilty of the rape and murder of Angelika and in 2007 is sentenced to serve a minimum of 21 years in prison. Whilst in custody, police start to look into Tobin's past. The police thought the level of criminal sophistication in Angelika's murder added to Tobin's 1994 conviction of raping two minors meant Tobin could be responsible for many other serious sexual offences.
The police investigation into Tobin's past was called Operation Anagram. This lead police in 2007 to an address where Tobin had previously lived in Margate, England. They found the remains of a 15 year old girl buried in the back garden - Vicky Hamilton. It's thought Tobin had abducted her whist she waited for a bus. And a few days later, police found the remains of a second body. It was Dinah McNicol, a 18 year old student who was last seen hitchhiking. The two girls had been missing since 1991.
Police suspected Tobin was involved in other offences, including the Bible John murders but were unable to obtain sufficient proof to bring further charges. Tobin himself boasts of 48 victims. Operation Anagram was wound down in 2011, it exists now as a manned email inbox.
In the years since his conviction Tobin has been the focus of many books and documentaries. He moved across England and Scotland for much of his life, and used many aliases in the process. A key (but not lone) proponent of the 'Tobin is Bible John' theory is criminologist, Professor David Wilson), who wrote a book detailing connections he had made between Tobin and Bible John. This 2010 book 'The Lost British Serial Killer' is co-written with Paul Harrison, the author of 'Dancing with the Devil' mentioned above. Wilson's book makes numerous connections between the behaviour, aliases, and figures of speech shared by Bible John and Peter Tobin - including Tobin apparently becoming aggressive to his former wives during their period. The links are compelling (though evidently not compelling enough to prevent the co-author of Wilson's book writing his own differing account of Bible John 3 years later alleging an entirely different culprit, a police officer).
But Tobin's possible identity as Bible John is contested by his first wife, Margaret Mackintosh (formerly Mountney). She says Tobin couldn't be Bible John - because she believed the two of them were together on honeymoon at the time of the second murder, which seems rather conclusive - but the talk of Tobin being Bible John refuses to go away.
At this stage it's worth mentioning another potential suspect - known as 'John White'. Former police officer Les Brown claimed that in 1969 he arrested a man outside the Barrowland Ballroom. The man was seen arguing with a woman he had met inside in the ballroom. The man, says Brown, acted suspiciously upon his detainment. He provided a false name and address. When pressed about this he revealed his real name and address, but an officer who out-ranked Brown ordered he release the man as he did not possess the overlapping front tooth which was believed to be a key identifying feature of Bible John. Some years later Brown conferred with a colleague, this detective colleague told a strange tale of a man he'd arrested outside the Barrowland following an altercation some years prior. He had needed to take his prisoner to hospital to have a head wound looked at and the man escaped out of the hospital. The escapee had given his name as 'John White'. Brown made these claims in 2005. His story appears credible and he rose to a very senior rank in Detective Chief Inspector, though it appears the real name of this man the two officers independently detained is lost to time. Brown further claims the murders stop after his arrest of 'John White', and that 'White' lived in the Gorbals area of Glasgow with his mother. The claims are investigated in 2005 and nothing more is heard.
A big part of the Bible John case is trying to establish the facts. The decades that have passed and repeated books claiming to bring new information to light have muddied the waters. We are left with the reality that there is seemingly no definitive description of Bible John's appearance.
There is even disagreement as to his use of Biblical 'quotes' - its not known for certain just what his knowledge of scripture was. It seems to be accepted that he used a story involving Moses rather quote verbatim from the Bible when speaking to Helen and Jean in the taxi. There is disagreement whether he illustrated the story in the correct context. So ultimately, we don't really know the significance of the Bible in the man's life; was it a cursory working knowledge typical of the generation, or was there a deeper knowledge and significance? We will never know for certain. We do know the name 'Bible John' was coined by a journalist working for the Daily Record.
Also, the killer seems to have some preoccupation/fetish involving menstruation - and any conclusions drawn would be speculation on my part. It is thought by some that Bible John liaised with a number of women during the time and only killed those on their period and who refused to have sex with him - but we don't know if this is true.
Add to this, we have the fact that Bible John appeared to have stopped killing. Theorising why serial killers seemingly stop killing is always a contentious subject; did they get sent to prison for other offences? Did they move abroad? Did they sufficiently alter their MO and continue under the radar? Did they commit suicide? Or did they just stop?
But by discounting things we cannot know for certain, or things over which there is considerable disagreement - we can start to build a more practical image of who the killer was;
The killer was comfortable talking to women in a 'nightclub' setting, and equally did not stand out in this setting. He knew his way around Glasgow. He met the women in the Barrowland Ballroom at Over-25s nights. He walked the victims home and attacked them when they were close to getting home. He is able to overpower them. He punches and kicks the women repeatedly, these blows are mainly directed to the head and face. He sexually assaults them. He uses ligatures to strangle to the women - the ligatures in the latter two murders were made with the victim's tights (an item such as a belt was likely used in the first murder). He had bitten the leg of his last victim (the mark leaving no usable forensic impression) and her sanitary pad was deliberately left under Helen's arm. All the victims had been menstruating at the time. He made no attempt to conceal the bodies. Equally, there doesn't appear to be any undoing behaviour exhibited by the killer, if anything he looks to have left the bodies in indecent positions perhaps with an intent to further degrade the women.
It seems the eyewitnesses agree that 'Bible John' was between 25 and 30. As the crimes occurred in 1968/69, we can infer an approximate date of birth of between 1938 and 1943 - even allowing for a few years either side, Bible John if still alive would be in his 70s or 80s. So it's not totally unreasonable to think he may now be dead. Maybe the only way this case is solved is via GEDmatch or something along those lines - criminals have been apprehended in the UK via familial links in genealogical databases. However, it is said that DNA samples linked to Bible John have long since degraded to beyond the point of having any value.
Peter Tobin appears to be a good suspect. There is circumstantial evidence which points very strongly to Tobin; his ex-wives statements regarding his sexual violence and proclivities, that Tobin seemingly used an alias similar to the name allegedly mentioned by the killer, and that he was living in the Glasgow area at the time of the first two murders. He is also a convicted serial violent sex offender and murderer. There are factors that point away from Tobin being John. He'd be both on the young side, 22 years old - and short side of many eyewitness accounts, as Tobin is between 5"6 to 5"7. Also he has dark hair rather than red or a fair red colour. Are these discrepancies outweighed when compared to the compelling nature of the circumstantial evidence? Its all too common to attribute unsolved murders to apprehended serial killers. And then there's Tobin's first wife's claim of being with him at the time of the second murder in Brighton, 465 miles from Glasgow.
Jean Langford passed away in 2010 - her family state she did not think Tobin was the man she shared a taxi with that evening. In the years since her sister's murder, Jean attended over 300 identity parades. But she never saw the face she wanted to see.
Bible John's ominous epithet and unidentified status means the murders will long feature in true crime annals. 'Bible John' sounds enigmatic - the name exudes a mystique and has a power over imagination. It's over 50 years since the last known crime and so seems unlikely the identity of the murderer will ever be proven. There is a chance that much of the early investigative work went to waste. It may be of limited use sourcing eyewitnesses, collecting statements, going undercover at the ballroom - if suspects were then excluded from supposed involvement in the crimes based upon hunches or a feeling they did not sufficiently resemble a composite picture.
For what it's worth, I have some issues with the culprit being Peter Tobin. He would seem to be too young and too short to match the descriptions. I don't put a lot of stock in hair colour - as lighting can change a tone and people can colour their hair - but the consensus is of a red colouration and Tobin's hair was much darker. I do concede people can guess at ages and heights and general descriptions and the staff at the Barrowland (who presumably were not the least intoxicated) provided a description that could match Tobin. However, Tobin's first wife vouches for his whereabouts during the second murder, and if you read what this woman went through with Tobin you'd see she has absolutely no reason to lie on his behalf. But again people get dates wrong and the passage of times fogs the memory. And in many regards, Tobin looks a very viable suspect. I have always been puzzled why the John from Castlemilk never came forward - even if he was married, he hadn't done anything adulterous at the Barrowland so its unlikely he was worried about his wife/family finding out about being at the nightclub. I wonder what reason prevented him from coming forward and making a statement. He was a key witness and could have provided valuable information to the investigation. This is just one of many questions we will probably never know the answer to - but these are secondary to the main question; who was Bible John?
I hope you got something from the post - as I mentioned in the intro, this case has long interested me and I wanted to write a post that covered as much ground as possible. I'm keen to hear people's comments.

2020.02.10 17:18 CaptainRoyD NSA Whistleblower Bill Binney: "Leak NOT Hack"

William Binney is “A Good American” who served this country for over 35 years as a Senior US Military Intelligence Officer. Bill became an early NSA Whistleblower (pre Edward Snowden) and revealed ongoing illegal mass surveillance programs by the NSA.
Post Q# 394 on 12/19/17:
We have the USSS, NSA, and DHS, also protecting this message.
Bill Binney was involved with not only helping to build these surveillance computer programs but in ultimately exposing their purposes. NSA would later name Bill Binney’s creations Stellar Wind/Thin Thread/and Trailblazer.
Post Q# 2332 on 10/4/18:
How the [SPY OP] re: Russia hacking + POTUS-Russia False Narrative + Installation of Mueller was CONSTRUCTED.
These new computer filters were able to selectively capture all historical data by using key identifying words. Ultra google-like search/capture programs were incorporated within the fastest super computers.
Post Q# 386 on 12/19/17:
PATRIOT of the highest caliber.
These special type of innovative secret computer programs ended up being misused by the NSA. Bill felt compelled to make these secret surveillance collection projects known to the American general public.
Post Q# 151 on 11/14/17:
Who do you trust to keep secrets?
These NSA programs were involved with the total capturing of all USA phone/data collection (the whole enchilada Snow White) against US law. Producer Oliver Stone asked Bill to assist and technically advise with his Hollywood hit movie called "Snowden". Snowden would be revealed by Team-Q as a traitor who stole from the NSA on instructions by the C_A.
Post Q# 384 on 12/19/17:
Bill Binney.
Binney claims that the NSA had been using spying mechanisms and computer programs successfully by past Presidential administrations. Mass surveillance programs have operated ever since the travesty that was 9/11 (Patriot Act).
Post Q# 1661 on 7/1/18:
What role can MI INTEL play?
What role can NSA play?
Bill worked along side several other NSA Whistleblowers like Thomas Drake and Kirk Wiebe to form a forensic team. This group of Patriots examined and ultimately scientifically disprove the “hack theory” due to high download speed rate (22.7 megabytes) of the so-called DNC breached computer server.
Post Q# 3841 on 2/7/20:
internal DL / release.
crowdstrike manipulation of source.
Binney has made several comments directly related to the ongoing political SpyGate scandal. Bill has backed up claims by President Trump that in fact POTUS was wiretapped by the U.S. Intelligence Community/Department of Justice.
Post Q# 166 on 11/20/17:
Expand your thinking.
Jason Bourne (Deep Dream).
At the request of POTUS, the then CIA Director Captain Mike Pompeo (KANSAS) and Binney had a sit-down. Bill’s scientific studies of the port/download transmission rates of the infamous DNC computer breach proved beyond question that it was a leak.
Post Q# 4016 on 4/30/20:
Was the DNC (was) hacked by Russia?
Seth Rich internal DL hand-to-hand pass USA?
Binney’s forensic team has shown that the DNC intrusion was a leak/physical download (Thumb Drive) as opposed to a hack/Internet outside download. A physical download proves it was a LEAK not HACK by all standard observations.
Post Q# 1002 on 4/3/18:
The BITE that has no CURE-NSA.
The difference in ‘speed’ is the pivotal factor in what started this entire ObamaGate ordeal. This throws out the false Russian narrative and brings right into play both the murder of Patriot Seth Rich and the release by WikiLeaks!
Post Q# 4153 on 5/8/20:

internal DL [terminal 1] speed?

2020.01.10 19:56 CassieCat2013 The actual situation of the headquarters of the academic society where the report did not reach Honorary Chairman Ikeda

One of the biggest problems I felt at Soka Gakkai's headquarters was that I did not receive a letter from my teacher, Chairman Emeritus Ikeda. Honorary Chairman Ikeda will instruct all staff members at a meeting (employee general meeting) on June 26, 2002, in which all staff members participate. "Please report any bad staff for the next 100 years.", "Now the society is a clerk. It's a government office. The girls' department is strict. Say the letter. Give the truth letter. I won't. " In addition, in the subsequent staff general meeting, regarding staff misconduct, "Tell Vice-President Hasegawa (now the President) if there is anything and I will come to me. I will investigate properly. But if there is a lie I will be harsh. Otherwise it will not be fair Because. " At the venue, we saw the nominated Vice-President Hasegawa respond, saying "yes" and stand up. The Honorary President was worried about the organization's constitution that the Chief Executives hid important information and did not report them to the Honorary President (this became a reality in the case of the dismissal of a male senior executive who caused women's problems) He ordered each headquarters employee to report directly to the Honorary President if anything was found. The words of the Honorary President will naturally open a window (helpline) in the headquarters for reporting staff misconduct. However, the report to Honorary Chairman Ikeda was a serious message that, as stated in the report, "If there is a lie in the report, I will severely punish the reporter," I will not be able to do my best to contribute to the society. . We encountered a staffing problem that we could not overlook. However, the decision to report to the Honorary Chairman is a sleepless struggle. I was going to be crushed by the conflict unless I gave it a title. However, overlooking that issue breaks his vow as a disciple of Honorary Chairman. No matter how much suffering, the subject was up. He visited Vice-Chairman Hasegawa with his trembling feet in pursuit of his religion and his life as a disciple. However, Vice President Hasegawa at the window said, "I can't use my teacher," "I can't see this conversation with you," said Mr. Ikeda. It's okay now that there's no Aomori Vice-Chairman or Chairman next door, but I wouldn't be able to talk like this if I was there, "he said, rejecting the report. Giving up is the same as choosing death. In addition, he moved to deliver it to the teacher. The Headquarters Disciplinary Commission will give us disciplinary dismissal for doing so.
■ Problems of the academic headquarters trying to report to Honorary Chairman Ikeda
Issues with headquarters staff trying to report to the honorary chairman by letter. It is about the actual situation of the audit interview by the headquarters supervisory audit committee under the direct control of the chairman, which we experienced on April 29, 2008 (place of audit interview) and May 22-24, 2008 (place of notice). . We said that headquarters staff slandered at the meeting, in front of nearly 1,000 participants, by name of specific members, saying "●● created a dark age" and "the previous regime was a dark age" The organization's organizational problems arose in the wake of the incident, the headquarters supervisory audit committee will be audited. After about two weeks, I went to my personal computer from the end of my work until midnight and made a document to submit to the Audit Committee. After that, the Audit Committee specified the date of the interview, "I would like to hear from you based on the document you submitted." Of course, at the interview, I hoped that the story would be heard fairly, so I went there. When we enter the interview room, four auditors, including the vice chairman, sit around one of us. All were executives of headquarters staff. I was overwhelmed by its intimidating atmosphere. No longer a sinner. The quivering voice is squeezed out, and the audit begins with the words "Thank you, please." However, as soon as he tried to explain the situation in detail, the Audit Committee member said, "This is not a place to discuss!" In addition, he said, "I just removed the person who caused the problem in Kanagawa recently." A lawyer joins a member who attended the meeting, and five members of the Audit Committee, including the Vice Chairman, will surround him and confirm at the beginning, "Is there a connection with Professor Ikeda?" When he knew he had no connection, he accused him, "You've caused a problem." We were shocked by the overly concluded, prejudiced and high-pressure audit interviews.
And notification of audit results. On that occasion, Kodaira defended for an accurate understanding of the facts, and the members of the Audit Committee said, "I'm not asking for an excuse." "I'm asking whether to make an oath. Because the headquarters has decided." "Isn't it okay?" "That's all. I received it as if I did not follow the guidance of the headquarters. It is fine." In addition, "Take it seriously." "You have such authority, headquarters supervisory audit committee. Do you understand?" "If you contradict our recognized academic society guidance, you will have to take some measures. "It's alright to go home." The interview is over. The Audit Committee member told Takikawa, "You are" accepting or not accepting, notifying me. "" Who are you complaining about? "" What are you listening to? " Admit! First! "" This is not a story to hear! And Inspector "If you keep this, you will rebel in factions." Taki "I will never do rebellion." Supervisor "I don't know that," Taki "Absolutely not!" Inspector "Because I'm not rebelling anymore!" Supervisor: "Okay, write it, then write a pledge!" Finally, the interview was over, saying, "If you did not hear the guidance of the headquarters, it would not be possible as a school member.
The conclusions reached by the Audit Committee must be submitted by pledge to a pledge that the Chairman and the Executive Officers have accepted it. The pledge stated that the matter should not be touched again. I thought the problem would be hidden. Moreover, he thought that he could not follow the elaborate conclusion of forcing members of the victim who had been slandered by the headquarters staff to make a pledge. If you follow, you will betray the teacher. However, that does not mean that as a staff member of Soka Gakkai, there was no conflict over whether to follow the conclusions made by official institutions of the Soka Gakkai. If you don't, you will be punished by the Disciplinary Commission, or you will be expelled, or you will wait for an uncertain future. I'm full of anxiety. Whether or not to submit a pledge has been a tormented and religious choice for each of us. Honestly, it was easier to pledge. I thought many times to make it easier. However, the more prayers we pray, the greater the number of curses, accusations, expulsions and punishments, and the fact that audits try to forcibly obey the pledge without resolving the essence of the matter. I thought it would not be. The deep-seated issues of headquarters staff that the headquarters of the society must take seriously are spreading to local organizations. Making a pledge to this pledge that doesn't make any sense to "let me submit a pledge and fix the problem" escapes the meaning of the problem I met.
"Don't swallow in the world of religion! (Honorary Chairman guidance)]
Even if you are fired, expelled, ridiculed, and laughed, you don't want to lie only to the teacher. With no disappointment, she was determined to take any action, and decided not to submit a pledge.
Ten people did not make a pledge at the notice of the Audit Committee. After that, pressure will be placed on the society organization, the workplace, and family members, and each will be pledged.,15700021,15700186,15700191,15700256,15700259,15700262,15700265&usg=ALkJrhhNAObkyXpH0fPxJUh2Sse8Ea31DQ

2019.12.29 21:53 popcodswallop [WTS] VINTAGE • Early Hard Rubber Watermans and Parkers with Superflex Nibs: Wat 12 ED Wat 12 1/2 PSF Wat 12 ED Wat 52 Parker Jack-Knife 20 1/2 •

This week's vintage batch features 5 early FPs in black chased hard rubber from Waterman and Parker. All have delightful Super-Flexible XF/XXF nibs ideally suited to calligraphic writing styles such as Copperplate and Spencerian. As always, all pens are fully restored and ready to write.
Pastable link:
Condition (n.b.): All pens listed below have been disassembled, cleaned and restored with new sacs installed in the lever fillers and threads greased on the eyedroppers in the couple months. Each of these pens guaranteed to fill and write as designed without leaks or other problems. Nibs have been adjusted when necessary to ensure that all lay down a smooth and consistent line.
Line Widths and Writing Samples: To provide buyers with as much information as possible, I have started to adopt the following line width standards: XXF (.1-.2mm); XF (approx .3mm); F (approx .4mm); M (approx .6mm); B (approx .8mm). Nib flexibility is determined by variation (max line width under pressure) and softness (amount of pressure). Flexibility designations based on variation generally run as follows for an XF/F nib: Semi-Flex (approx. 1mm); Flex (1.2-1.9mm); Superflex (>2mm). All line width measurements are taken with a digital caliper but should be considered approximations providing a general guide. Width may vary slightly depending on type of ink and paper used as well as amount of pressure applied. All writing samples are on Rhodia dot paper using Waterman Serenity Blue or Pelikan Edelstein Smokey Quartz.
1. 1900s-10s Waterman No. 12 Eyedropper (BCHR, eyedropper filler, 14k XF/F Superflex nib). This full-length, standard girth model measures 5 1/4" capped. The No. 12 eyedropper is the simple, utilitarian pen that first put Waterman on the map. Made of black, chased hard rubber, it was otherwise unadorned, designed as it was to be a no-nonsense writer that reliably put ink to paper for the multitudes. This pen came clipless from the factory (no holes drilled for a clip) during a time when clips were an optional upgrade. Optional nickel-plated accommodation may be fitted on buyer's request for an extra $10. The section unscrews for the barrel to filled with ink using an eyedroppepipette – holds far more ink than a lever filler of the same size. My usual caveats about early eyedroppers apply here. Some extra care must be taken with them owing to the amount of ink is stored directly in the barrel and their primitive feeds. FP design had yet to be perfected so that it is common to find some excess ink on the nib or in the cap when they are uncapped (especially if carried). Super-Flexible 14k Ideal NY #2 nib lays down a smooth and consistent XF/F line that widens to a respectable 4B+ (approx 2.3mm) under light pressure (see WRITING SAMPLE). Strong snap-back and impeccable flow through its full range of flex. Condition: very good [C]. This pen was well loved but is free of serious flaws. Hard rubber has faded to a chocolate brown color. Chasing is weak but visible. Surface is smooth and lustrous with no deep scratches or other notable blemishes. Manufacturer imprint on the barrel is weakened but still fully legible. Number stamp on barrel end is sharp and fully legible. Price: $155 SOLD
2. 1915-16 Waterman No. 12 1/2 PSF (BCHR w/ GF barrel bands, lever filler, 14k XXF Superflex nib). This full-length, narrow girth (1/2 size) model measures 5 1/4" capped. The first Waterman lever fillers, which were only manufactured from 1915-17, were marked ‘PSF’ (Pocket Self Filler) on the end of the barrel. They are also distinguished by having raised threads on the barrel (as opposed to later, inset threads). This is an example in black, chased hard rubber with two gold-filled barrel bands intricately engraved with an Art Deco floral motif. This pen came clipless from the factory at a time when clips were available at an added cost to the customer. Super-Flexible 14k Ideal NY #2 nib lays down a smooth and consistent XXF line that widens to a 4B+ (approx 2.4mm) under light pressure (see WRITING SAMPLE). Needlepoint hairlines, strong snap-back and reliable flow through its full range of flex. Condition: excellent- [B-]. Hard rubber isn't as oxidized as pen #1 above, but does show some fading to a dark chocolate color. Chasing shows moderate wear across barrel and cap. Surface is smooth and lustrous with no deep scratches or other notable blemishes. Gold-filled furniture is extremely clean, showing no wear aside from thin slivers of brassing on the outer edges of the barrel band nearest the nib. Manufacturer imprint on the barrel and number stamp on barrel-end are weakened but still fully legible. Price: $180 SOLD
3. 1906-9 Waterman No. 12 Eyedropper (BCHR, NPT, eyedropper filler, 14k XXF Superflex nib). This full-length, std. girth model measures 5 5/16" capped. The No. 12 eyedropper is the simple, utilitarian pen that first put Waterman on the map. Made of black, chased hard rubber, it was otherwise unadorned, designed as it was to be a no-nonsense writer that reliably put ink to paper for the multitudes. In addition to barrel and nib imprints, the patent dates on Waterman's clips provide crucial info about when their pens were made. The absence of a 1910 date on the clip of this example distinguishes this pen as a relatively early model, manufactured between 1906 and 1909. Super-Flexible 14k Ideal NY #2 nib lays down a smooth and consistent XXF line that widens to a 4B+ (approx 2.4mm) under light pressure (see WRITING SAMPLE). Needlepoint hairlines, strong snap-back and reliable flow over its full range of flex. Condition: excellent [B]. Hard rubber retains its dark black color with virtually no fading. Chasing shows light wear but is still visible and palpable throughout. Surface is smooth and lustrous with no deep scratches or other notable blemishes. Nickel-plated clip shows no notable wear whatsoever. Manufacturer imprint on the barrel and number stamp on barrel-end are weakened but still fully legible. **Price: ~~$210 $190~~ **SOLD
4. 1918-23 Waterman No. 52 (BCHR, NPT, lever filler, 14k XF Superflex nib). This full-length, std. girth model measures a hair under 5 1/2" capped. A fine example of Waterman's celebrated workhorse in black chased hard rubber with nickel-plated furniture. As on many of these pens, its Super-Flexible 14k Ideal #2 nib is a delightfully expressive write. It lays down a smooth and consistent XF line that widens to a 4B+ (approx 2.5mm) under light pressure (see WRITING SAMPLE). Fine hairlines, strong snap-back and reliable flow over its full range of flex. Condition: excellent [B]. Hard rubber retains its dark black color with virtually no fading. Chasing shows light wear but is still visible and palpable throughout. Surface is smooth and lustrous with no deep scratches or other notable blemishes. Nickel-plated furniture shows a spot of wear here and there – scarcely visible after a good polish. Manufacturer imprint on the barrel and number stamp on barrel-end are deep, sharp, and fully legible. Price: $240 $215 SOLD
5. c.1915 Parker Jack-Knife Lucky Curve No. 20 1/2 (BCHR, NPT, button filler, 14k XF Superflex nib). This full-length, std. girth model measures 5 3/8" capped. Manufactured roughly 3 decades after the company was founded in 1888, this early Parker features a Safety cap (marked "Jack Knife Safety" with a 1912 patent date) that was designed not to leak when carried. Rather than denoting the girth of the pen (cf. Watermans), Parker's numbering system used '1/2' to designate a chased model. This one is made of black, chased hard rubber with nickel plated clip, knurled HR blindcap and clip lock, and Lucky Curve "Xmas tree" feed. This pen is a button filler (see DETAIL PHOTO). To fill simply unscrew the blindcap, submerse the nib, and depress the brass button once. 14k Lucky Curve #2 nib is long-tined and features an early teardrop breather hole. This Super-Flexible nib lays down a buttery smooth and consistent XF line that widens to a 4B+(approx 2.4mm) under light pressure (see WRITING SAMPLE). Condition: excellent/near mint [B+]. This pen is a duplicate from my personal collection and you'd be hard pressed to find a nicer example. Hard rubber retains its dark black color with scarcely any fading. Chasing is as sharp and crisp as they come with no discernible wear. Surface is smooth and lustrous with no deep scratches or other notable blemishes. Knurling on clip-lock and blind cap is unbelievably sharp. Nickel-plated clip is clean aside from minor dulling of its luster toward the clip ball. Manufacturer imprint on the barrel, "Jack Knife" imprint on cap, and number stamp on blind cap are all factory deep, sharp, and fully legible. A time-capsule example of this pen and a lovely writer to boot. Price: $290 SOLD

2019.12.11 19:44 erinshe79 An introduction to Jonsae for foreigners

One common subject on this sub concerns housing.
While Korea is pretty much like any other country in many respects, in terms of housing Korea actually does have some unique features that tend to get misunderstood.
A prime example is Jonsae.
A Jonsae is a type of rent contract where the security deposit is big enough that the interest (or opportunity cost) of that deposit is understood by the parties to replace some or all of the monthly rent payment.
For example, let's assume a certain unit whose rental price is 50M deposit and 300K monthly. Renting at this default configuration would simply be called "rent(wolsae)". However, parties can also agree to a different configuration of deposit vs monthly rent which would still be considered the same overall price, by reducing the the monthly rent in exchange for a bigger deposit (calculated by a market conversion ratio). Thus parties might agree to a 100M deposit 150K monthly "Half-jonsae" configuration, or might even agree on a 150M no-monthly "Full-jonsae" configuration. In any case, as long as the configuration follows the market accepted conversion ratio (in this case 100M deposit per 300k monthly) they would all be considered the same price.
Having explained the concept of converting rent onto jonsae deposit, it is important to mention that just because a full-jonsae or half-jonsae configuration can be considered to be the same price as a standard rent, doesn't mean that all configurations are equally desirable to the landlord or renter. The current market conversion ratio of 100M deposit per 300k monthly equates to 4.8% per annum returns (in reduced rent costs) for the renter, which is significantly better than retail interest rates these days. This means that in theory a renter should always try to maximise the deposit amount, and the other way around for the landlord. In practice, landlords usually have a limit to the amount of jonsae they are willing to accept (which would be nothing more than unusable cash on their balance sheet), and renters also have a limit to the amount of deposit they have in hand.
One thing people who are new to Jonsae rightly question is what happens when the landlord cannot pay a large jonsae deposit back. This is interesting because this touches on Korean legal treatment of jonsae deposits as a property right. While in most other countries deposits are not liens on properties, in Korea they are.
When you sign a rent contract, it is VERY VERY IMPORTANT that the first thing you do is go to the nearest district office (dong sa mu so) and GET A CONFIRMATION DATE (hwak jung il ja) on the contract. This does two things : (1) the district office enters your deposit information in the property's public registrar (2) your deposit gains the same legal status as mortgage established on that date. It is worth mentioning that because the liquidation preference is only equal to mortgage, the deposit will be paid after paying off mortgages that existed before the confirmation date. Therefore, another thing to remember is BEFORE YOU RENT, LOOK AT THE "LIENS" SIDE OF THE TITLE REGISTRAR TO SEE WHETHER THERE ARE ANY MORTGAGES. Realtors are obligated by law to show you the house's registrar before you sign a rent contract.
One more thing to note is that if your jonsae is small (under KRW 110M in Seoul) there is a "Statutory Highest Seniority Jonsae Amount" (in Seoul KRW 37M) which will be paid before everything else, regardless of date, no questions asked. It is not much in today's high prices, but it is something.

2019.11.17 13:30 SyrenWitchofSeas Thanks family. I'm not Trans just utterly messed up

So this is my first time doing this, sharing my life. So I'll do a bit of cast setup. Me as me BM = birth mom BD = birth dad SM = step mom SD = step dad Gram = grandmother JA = Jerk Aunt JU = Jerk Uncle
Ok so to set the scene this is about 8 years ago, I had just moved a city away from my BM and SD, to move in with my Grams. To me this was my first independent step ever and helped get me away from small town life that I had grown to hate. At this time I was 17 almost 18, still trying to figure myself out and what I wanted in life. Growing up I did not have the best life, but that's another story for another time.
So like most young adults I was struggling with my sexuality and myself. I was constantly feeling out of sorts as to what I wanted. Some days I'd find men attractive, others it would be women. Even rarer were the days when I couldn't find any attraction in anybody.
I never really dated growing up, the only person I dated was a guy 4 years my senior but we were both under 18 and he had so many health problems he didnt act his age. So when I got more independence I didn't think much of it when all my friends were finding themselves boyfriends/girlfriends while I stayed single.
I think it took almost a year for me to see that a lot of my friends and fellow classmates had begun settling down and starting families or went to college. I was still stuck in this pit I had somehow dug myself. I truly started to question myself more when I started getting rid of alot of my girly clothes and ended up buying more male ones.
Cue more chaos at home as my JA and JU basically moved in with my grandmother and us due to money problems. I started acting a bit different, finding one night stands to prove something to them, I'm still unsure what up to this day. I only stopped because I didn't like it, there wasn't any enjoyment in it. So curious I took to youtube, hoping to find something that I might compare to how I felt. Hoping to get an answer.
And I did, kind of. I found videos of transgender people talking about their life experiences and how they new they were trans. It just kind clicked a bit because I would always have days were all I wanted to do was kind of fit in with the guys at work.
Thinking I had finally found the answer I came out to my family at home as transgender. They were, to put it lightly, not amused. I began getting ridiculed and judged whenever I'd wear anything that wasn't girly. They all would say it was my BM's fault that I was so messed up. That the divorce made me crazy and she caused it.
I would always keep silent, and then cry myself to sleep. All I wanted was recognition that I chose something but instead the attention was turned to BM. Time passed and I thought "Hey BD would understand, let's tell him. He would be happy to interact with me more"
So the next time he was over, we went out to eat and I shared with him my good news, that I was transgender and would love to spend more time with him and he could show me the ropes of being male. I misjudged him. Immediately he seemed very unnerved and told me not to jump into anything. He said he had a friend that was lesbian in a partner relationship that I should talk to before making a drastic mistake.
Mistake, that's all I could keep hearing as he tried changing the subject and then brought up BM and how he thinks the divorce changed me. As of that day I distanced myself from all my family, too afraid to talk to BM as I don't think I could handle anymore rejection. For several years I kinda let life do what it does, went through the motions of work and basically became emotionless.
It wasnt until 2015 when I finally got away from grams, JA and JU that I tried to start living again. But life went from bad to worse. I was living in a trailer with a man I barely knew but he knew my Grams, I had just lost my job and was about to loose my place, as temporary as it was.
A chance call from BM, she was in town and wanted to meet up for lunch and catch up. I couldn't afford a full meal but figured I could just get a soda and sit with her so I agreed. We met at Perkins, and I kinda seemed to be aloof around her as it had been years since we had talked. We chatted about weather and she let me know what she had been up to since her wedding, the last time I had seen her.
She asked about me, and well I figured I might as well pull off the bandaid since it would be easier to distance myself if I knew she didn't approve. I told her about being transgender. Surprisingly she didn't seem mad, just confused and she asked what it was. As I explained about what it meant and how I had a chosen male name and everything she hugged me and said she didn't care if I was name or new name, just that she wanted to have a relationship with me again.
I broke down in tears and we hugged. It had been so long that I had waited for some sort of approval from anyone. I eventual caved and told her about my situation, within the week I had moved back home. Soon it became apparent that my mental health was not good and she helped me get seen for depression and anxiety.
As soon as I was stable and living on my own again, back in my main city I located my best friend and we would hang out until she noticed I was different almost everytime we would meet. She pointed it out and then I began realizing I was losing time or not remembering saying or doing something with her. I got myself seen by a therapist, and we found out several things.
1, I had PTSD, and 2, I was now a D.I.D system. DID is dissociative identity disorder which used to be called multiple personality disorder. Upon the revelation I was kind of relieved that I had not attempted to transition to male.
Me and my best friend we able to deduce that I had different sides of me that each were different genders and sexualities. This was what had been confusing me my whole life and had caused such a rift between my family. At first I was afraid and didn't want it, but harmful thoughts would not help when part of you can defend itself.
My BM is still very supportive of me no matter what I do. I personally have gotten close with all 17 + sides of me and I rarely lose time anymore. We've come to find a special way to deal with our day to day life and still have time for fun.
As estranged as I am with the rest of my family, I guess in a way I have to thank them. I don't know how long it would have taken me to finally figure this stuff out if I hadn't been ostracized by them.
Well no matter what I'll never be alone now, who needs to settle down quickly when everyday can be a new adventure with a bunch of friends to watch your back. 😄😄

2019.11.16 21:14 Ralphasaurus13 CMSAF & HAF A1 Discussion Notes

I received this email regarding CMASF & HAF A1 discussion notes. The email specifically says that all of this is still in conversation form and nothing is final or even going to happen. I saw some people talking about this stuff on here and wanted to make it available to all y'all. I did not type this up so I have no answers to anything you may ask regarding this. Its a straight copy/paste from the email. It's a long one so buckle up.
EDIT* Formatting done. Still looks like shit. Sorry.
Fitness Assessments: Amn will be allowed to have their abdominal circumference measured 7 calendar days prior to completing the full test. Amn will also be allowed to take a diagnostic (mock test) with all components and if they like their score, they can opt to accept it as their official assessment, if not Amn will test before their due date as normal. Amn must be in the current status in order to utilize the “diagnostic test” option. Additionally, new PT uniforms will be rolling out soon. The Air Force is also looking to completely overhaul the PT program/test. There was discussion that all the other services have significantly revised their PFTs and if the top leaders get their way, the test itself may go away completely in favor of a culture of always being fit/exercising (not many more details provided in this arena).
  • Some additional PT Program stats:
  • Currently 21% of AD Enlisted and 12% of AD Officers are EXEMPT from the aerobic portion of their fitness test (the run or the walk)
  • Approx. 27% of AD Amn have some form of exemption on their current fitness test
  • Approx. 3% have a failing score
  • Approx. 55% have an excellent fitness rating
  • The average initial run times of members at BMT is approx. 17 minutes/1.5 miles (exploring accessions requirements/standards)
The new Senior Enlisted Advisor to the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff is CMSgt Ramon Colon-Lopez. This is a big deal for our branch because he is the first AF leader to sit in this position (he will be the 4th Senior Enlisted leader from all branches to fill this seat). You rarely see AF Senior leaders filling positions in the Joint world as such, so this is a big deal in showcasing our leadership capabilities as an Air Force.
Indefinite Reenlistments- once an Amn hits 12 years in the service, you will be notified to come into the MPF to sign a contract and that contract will be indefinite, so no expiration date and having to re-apply for another reenlistment 3 or 4 years later. You will still have an active duty service commitment if warranted for PCS’s, trainings, etc. This will go into effect mid-Nov 2019 and members with a bonus will still receive SRBs.
Emergency Leave of Absence- A1 is working on implementing 14 days of non-chargeable leave for Amn who have to take leave for a death of family member, extenuating circumstances like getting custody of a child, etc. Emergency leave of absence is in the Dept of Defense instruction and delegated to the services chiefs to implement in their branch, however, it had never been an interest item to have the SECAF implement. BUT NOW IT IS! A1 is working to figure out how the leave will be tracked because unfortunately, it is only a one time occurrence. This is not an entitlement that you can take multiple times throughout your career unfortunately. So once those items are figured out, then AFPC can implement the new policy and roll out to the field.
  • The target goal in this arena is true bereavement leave…however, leave itself, is codified in law and is not easy OR fast to change. The target is to provide up to potentially 60 days at a time, multiple times in an Airman’s career and the service is aggressively seeking to push the issue. However, the DoD itself still has not bought off on the idea and until that gets attention, we can’t go to Congress to fight the fight. Both CMSAF and Chief Neri spoke to how we, as the Air Force can send people TDY, etc. to play sports or go to other functions, however, can’t give a member some non-chargeable time off for a member to handle a family emergency, handle child custody, etc.?! just doesn’t add up.
  • HAF/JA has cleared the way for this new Emergency Leave of Absence policy to be delegated down to the Squadron CC’s. There’s some issues in tracking this one-time leave, and at this time the primary COA being looked at right now is to upload a document to PRADA and unit leave monitors will have to verify prior use before commanders approve the 14 day request (more below on why LeaveWeb won’t work to track this in a timely manner)
(Currently CMSAF’s #1 item to work on) Enlisted Evaluation System- will be redesigning EPRs and the focus will be on the front end such as coaching of Amn and ensuring feedback is provided. The AF audit agency conducted a poll of how many Amn received initial and midterm feedbacks and sadly 80+ percent of Amn said they do not receive feedbacks. Additionally, 85% didn’t get mid-term feedbacks. They highlighted that the far right marking practice was even more prevalent at the SNCO levels. The evaluation focus group is looking at the importance/need for stratifications, the need for Force distribution and potentially removing WAPS testing for SrA – TSgts. These are elements being reviewed but no definitive modifications have been determined as of yet. The target of the new system is to highly leverage technology – think when it comes time for a feedback the rater and ratee will communicate across mobile platform/via apps and the system will likely force interaction/tracking. Also, if face-to-face is needed it will tie in as well.
  • Promotions- looking at potentially expanding the number of years Amn will be TIG/TIS eligible to promote to SSgt and TSgt and promoting off of time, not WAPS. Many Amn are promoting to SSgt in 3 years and they don’t possess the experience/skills needed to effectively supervise young Amn. No definitive numbers set but it is under review. This topic has several affects/is being discussed for several reasons including:
  • 1) if we promoted to requirements (for SSgt’s) across the force, we would need to promote 96-98% of SrA (think about that one for a second!). This is the product of several reasons, mentioned were: previous force management programs, a better civilian economy and (semi-coupled with) cultures of burn-out/loading high expectations (supervisory loads) within certain career fields on very young SSgts.
  • 2) Continuing to do nothing (i.e. leave promotion systems as they are currently operating) due to this high vacancy in the middle tier, in 3-5ish years we’ll see single digit promotion rates into MSgt/SNCO ranks (think 6-8%).
  • 3) part of the issue on tackling suicides and resiliency across the force is that our SSgt’s are where the rubber meets the road with the bulk of our force. We’re promoting very young SSgts, with little life or Air Force experience and loading them up with troops. This experience/age gap is emerging as a potential contributing factor to the issue of suicide both for the troops and the young supervisors.
  • The notional timelines being considered are SSgt’s promote around 6 years TIS (with an option for BTZ) and TSgt’s promote around 10-11 years TIS (…again with BTZ option).
  • STEP program is intended to stick around and possibly add a few more stripes (current is about 180 stripes each year – looking to increase to about 220).
Other items still on the “To Do List” not captured above:
  • Joint stratifications for members in joint billets
  • Join custody assignments. If two military members or, even one military membeone civ have joint custody of child(ren), then the AF will have a similar process to Join Spouse assignments. There will likely be a little more restrictions/less of a guarantee of approval vs. join spouse (i.e. will only move if there is a vacancy or they can go slightly over manning/grade at new base if moved)
  • Revising the DSD process. Here AFPC only has 3 members working all the DSD stuff. Additionally, for every 1 DSD requirement, they require 4-5 nominees. The AF realizes that the DSD process is digging deep into bases to fill these 4-5 nominee slots and that the process isn’t the best. They are exploring utilizing MyVector or another platform to perform the entire DSD process…more to follow
Other Notes:
Air Force Systems Issues:
  • The Air Force top leadership recognizes that our current personnel systems are not working for us…systems like AFFMIS II, LeaveWeb, etc. Part of the problem is the way they are designed (that they were not designed as most commercial systems are today to readily receive updates and around interoperability). The other hang up is that we contract the maintenance/sustainment of these systems and even forms out. The end result is if the Air Force approves a change to a block on the EPR, for instance, it takes 10-15 months for that change to be made on average. Say we want to change LeaveWeb to track the 14 day Emergency Leave of Absence…10-15 month process. Have AFFMIS track PT stats differently…again, 10-15 months.
  • The issue on this time frame is that the contractors on these systems were never given enough money/manpowetime to make the changes being asked of them today. They currently look at ONLY certain systems/forms/etc. on a quarterly basis and then, can only prioritize top changes that the military requests at each look of a particular system (so not all changes that need made/requested are actually made).
  • The service is excited to bring the Air Force Integrated Personnel and Pay System online (projected for spring 2021) that will have a more open architecture, be tied together and readily updatable.
  • The end state (years down the road) is that each Squadron CSS has an additional member in them that can write/modify and deal with all things coding.
Resiliency/Tactical Pauses. Some stats from the last tactical pause and focus groups revealed:
  • Overall feedback was positive
  • 70% of Airman stated that they felt in contact/connected with their coworkers/unit/leadership (*however, 70% of these members cited social media as a major contributor of feeling connected)
  • To help improve resiliency, members stated:
  • Need more down days, more morale events (at all levels), and more team building events
  • More/improved communication
  • Increased time with leadership
The Space Force, in some form, is going to happen. Right now there’s competing theories of how to do this in Congress between a Space Corps or a Space Force.
The Air Force is working on extending first term Amn OCONUS assignments (likely to 3 years). This will provide time for the Airmen to receive training and actually be utilized at the OCONUS base before PCS’ing.
HAF/A1Z (Resiliency) is looking into EFMP assignments as there has been a high rate of issues uncovered. Additionally, they are exploring the idea of manning EFMP assignments/AFPC call centers, etc. with members that have actually dealt with EFMP and/or they, themselves part of the EFMP program.
Retention and recruitment have been on a steady rise despite the strong U.S. economy. Going into this FY we already met nearly 2/3 of our yearly goals with extra members retained last year.
The total stats on non-deployability is approx. 4.6% across the force (under the 5% DoD cap)
The Air Force is projected to expand the Task Force True North program to 9 more bases this FY. We want to mimic the AFSOC Preservation of the Force and Family (POTFF) program, however cost is a LIMFAC. To outfit every squadron like AFSOC does, it would cost approx. $2B. This FY they are hoping to secure $248M to expand True North to a total of 14 bases.

2019.09.17 11:02 hoodvisions Grafikdesigner, UI/UX Designer u.A., ich brauch' mal euren Input

Mein Problem:
Meine Optionen:
Was VÖLLIG anderes machen: Ich würde gerne mit Tieren arbeiten.

2019.07.22 14:59 CrackerofWise Let's Talk About...Mississippi State

When: 11/16/2019
Where: Davis Wade Center for the Propagation of Tinnitus, Starkille, MS
Why: To serve as a “Winston Wolf moment” after beating LSU (Link NSFW)
Coach: Joe Moorhead, 2nd Season. He previously served as offensive coordinator at Penn State and head coach of FCS Fordham.
Mascot: Bulldogs (formerly Aggies, Bull Dogs, Maroons)
2018 Rank: “Also Receiving Votes” (45) in the Final AP Poll after a rough loss to Iowa in the Outback Bowl; 8th in Football Outsiders S&P+ and FEI Ratings
2018 Record: 8-5 (4-4, 4th in the SEC West)
Search for results of games between Alabama and Mississippi State, and you’ll find references to something called “The Battle of Highway 82.” This refers to US-82, which connects the city of Tuscaloosa with the town of Starkville, MS. Apparently, some people consider this game a rivalry. They’ve even created a dedicated Wikipedia page.
Now admittedly, Alabama has played Mississippi State more than any other team, and the universities are the geographically closest in the SEC, but rivalry implies an equality of status that is laughably absent: The all-time series record is 81-18-3 in favor of Alabama. Mississippi State has been completely shut out more times (27) than they’ve simply not lost the game (21). From 1958 to 1979 Alabama beat Mississippi State 22 straight times—the overwhelming majority of MSU’s players on their 1980 team would not have been born when State last won a game in the series. During five separate stretches, State has gone a decade or more without a victory—we’re currently in the midst of the fifth. A 2012 article on the series written by State’s own SBNation blog began simply and truthfully, “It’s not good.”
This is not a “battle.” This is the Highway 82 Massacre.
Last year, Joe Moorhead arrived and installed a new offense in Starkville. Under Dan Mullen, State emphasized the power running game, using a variety of counters and pre-snap reads to take advantage of numerical superiority. Moorhead brought a much heavier reliance on RPOs to Starkville, instead emphasizing flexibility through post-snap reads by his quarterback.
Considering these dramatically different responsibilities, it becomes more understandable that Senior QB Nick Fitzgerald disappointed in the new offense while battling back from a gruesome leg injury. As his receivers also struggled with drops, State’s passing offense proved remarkably inefficient, with Fitzgerald managing only a 51.6% completion rate. Though his offense is designed to pass the ball far more than Mullen’s, these inefficiencies forced Moorhead to lean heavily on the run game, passing on less than 40% of offensive downs. Predictably, in games when the opponent successfully committed to stopping the run, as with Kentucky, Florida, and Alabama, the offense effectively disappeared.
In the spring, it appeared that the offense might continue to be so limited. Presumptive starter Keytaon Thompson might be an even better runner than Fitzgerald, but limited action suggests he is also a worse passer. Then in April, Redshirt Senior Penn State QB Tommy Stevens opted for a grad transfer to Starkville. Ironically, his 6’5” frame and athleticism (at Penn State he was used in special packages as a runner and a receiver) is reminiscent of the departed Fitzgerald. However, Stevens’ passing drew favorable reviews at the Manning Passing Academy this summer, and he has substantial experience with Moorhead’s offense. Presumably, this will make Thompson MSU’s backup. It is hard to imagine Moorhead choosing the running QB after his offense struggled so mightily last year without a legitimate passing threat. If Stevens truly turns out to be a gifted passer, then Moorhead will be able to open up his playbook and run his preferred RPO-heavy offense.
At wide receiver, the top three players return—Stephen Guidry, Osirus Mitchell, and Deddrick Thomas. However, gifted Kansas State transfer Isaiah Zuber should immediately displace one of them as a starter. Junior college signee JaVonta Payton could push for snaps as well. If State is to fully embrace Moorhead’s more balanced offense, this group needs to improve, particularly by reducing drops. The position has long languished in Starkville—no Mississippi State wide receiver has been drafted since Eric Moulds in 1996—and if that doesn’t change under Moorhead, his tenure is likely to be short. At tight end, under-utilized senior Farrod Green will hope to breakout in his first season as a starter.
Running back Kylin Hill appears to be a capable starting running for the Bulldogs. As starter last year, he averaged over six yards a carry. However, his usage was sporadic, in part due to injuries during the heart of the season. He surpassed 100 yards rushing only against Kansas State, Auburn, and Ole Miss, while these three games and the Outback Bowl against Iowa were his only games with double-digit carries. In part, this was because Fitzgerald was easily the team’s leading rusher. With Stevens bringing a similar athleticism, Hill’s role could be somewhat secondary once again, though Stevens could also open up new opportunities for him in the passing game. He could shine as a junior, but only if he can stay healthy this year. Senior Nick Gibson should back him up once again. Gibson performed capably in limited action last year, but junior college signee Kareem Walker could push for playing time, too.
The offensive line returns substantial experience, as center Darryl Williams, right tackle Greg Eiland, and right guard Stewart Reese return, though none of them started at the same position last season. The other two projected starters are Dareun Parker at left guard and Tyre Phillips at left tackle, each of whom has played in a number of games over the last several years. With three returning starters and upperclassmen at each of the five spots, the offensive line should be a strength for State, which will no doubt help Stevens at QB.
Last year, Alabama failed to lead the SEC in fewest yards allowed per game for the second time since 2008. The leader? Mississippi State. Not only did State easily claim the SEC’s best defense in 2018, but they had a compelling argument for the best unit in country—leading the nation in fewest yards allowed per game and finishing second to Clemson in scoring defense by a mere tenth of a point per game.
Of course, the shame of it is that perhaps their best defense in school history was wasted covering for an offense that managed a touchdown or less in each of four regular season losses. However, despite heavy attrition via the NFL draft, coordinator Bob Shoop’s return to competence after an explicably miserable two years at Tennessee suggests that this unit can still manage a solid year in 2019.
On the defensive line, the situation is rather bleak. With all four 2018 starters gone, competitions are ongoing across the board. At end, Chauncey Rivers, a former Georgia Bulldog by way of Last Chance U, will likely claim one spot after some success as a rotational player last year. The other side will feature either Marquiss Spencer, who redshirted last year after a season-ending injury against Kentucky, or Kobe Jones who played off the bench. Inside, it looks like anyone’s guess. Seniors Lee Autry and Kendell Jones will get a shot, but freshmen Fabien Lovett and Nathan Pickering could reach the starting lineup early if the seniors struggle.
The linebackers will likely need to make up for the line’s lack of experience. Fortunately for State, they are prepared to do so. Returning middle linebacker Erroll Thompson is a team captain, and will lead the defense alongside fellow 2018 starters Willie Gay and Leo Lewis, who will likely rotate much of the time as State (like pretty much everyone these days) plays a great deal of nickel defense to matchup against passing offenses.
The secondary returns star corner Cam Dantzler along with Brian Cole at star. They project to fill out the unit with upperclassmen Jaquarius Landrews and CJ Morgan at safety and Maurice Smitherman at corner. Breaking in three new starters in the secondary is rarely a smooth process, and could give State some growing pains on the back end as well.
Overall, the unit projects to take a substantial step back against the pass with new starters in the secondary and an entirely new defensive line rushing the passer (shame that they don’t have Brian Bakerthere to coach them up anymore…). The experienced linebackers can make up for some of the shortcomings, but barring a Bob Shoop Miracle, this won’t be the SEC’s top defense again in 2019.
Special Teams
State returns both specialists from 2018. Kicker Jace Christmann has never made one beyond fifty, but then he’s never missed an extra point either—and I think we all know that there’s something to be said for that. At punter, returning starter Tucker Day wasn’t very good, and the arrival of grad transfer Corliss Waitman from South Alabama probably means he’s gonna be resting his leg on Saturdays this fall.
The defense is going to regress. The receivers should be better, particularly with transfer Isaiah Zuber in the mix. The offensive line should be solid. The presumptive quarterback is an unknown. Stevens has experience with Moorhead, but after sitting behind Trace McSorley for three years, he still felt insecure enough in a QB battle versus several sophomores that he opted to take his show on the road. Expecting this first-year starter transfer to step straight in and carry the team’s fortunes is a tall order.
The question for Mississippi State in year two of the Joe Moorhead era is whether Stevens can pull the offense together in time to carry the load for a defense diminished from its world-beating 2018 form. It’s unlikely that Stevens comes out of nowhere to play like a top FBS QB, but there are certainly reasons to believe he can elevate the performance of Moorhead’s offense, particularly with a solid supporting cast around him. I would be shocked if the team regresses to the extent of missing a bowl. But I would also be shocked if they improve on 2018’s regular season, given that Bama, LSU, and Texas A&M are on their schedule. I expect them to win 6-8 games, with midseason matchups in Auburn and Knoxville likely to define the difference.
There are reasons to prefer new-look Mississippi State from a matchup perspective—assuming that Stevens allows them to run Moorhead’s preferred offense. Under Saban, this game has occasionally presented problems because of the physical nature of the Dan Mullen offense and the game’s position on the schedule directly after another typically physical contest with LSU. As a further frustration, Mullen’s offense was typically unlike anything Bama could expect to see in the postseason.
Moorhead’s RPO-based attack, however, should have some value in preparing for the similar schemes that could easily show up in late December and/or January. On the flip side, if LSU actuallyoverhauls its offense under new passing game coordinator Joe Brady, that game could conceivably give us a boost in preparing for State, as Brady spent time as a GA for Moorhead at Penn State.
Of course, from a scheduling perspective, there is bad news as well. State has a bye week on Nov. 9, giving them an extra opportunity to rest up and prepare while Alabama plays the Swamp People at home. Additionally, the November date will mean that their new QB has plenty of time to adjust and get comfortable in the offense before facing the Crimson Tide.
On offense, Alabama can expect something substantially easier than the tough sledding against last year’s elite unit from Starkville. With graduations in the secondary, State’s depth there will take a substantial hit, opening the door for Alabama to spread the field with receivers, forcing State’s experienced linebackers off the field in favor of young defensive backs.
On defense, Moorhead favors utilizing 11 personnel (1 tight end, 1 running back, 3 receivers) an overwhelming majority of the time, to minimize “tells” based on personnel. This will limit Alabama’s ability to use its depth to rotate personnel based on matchups. At this early stage, I expect a lot of nickel defense, with high-level play from Dylan Moses and run support from the secondary critical to keeping State behind the chains. As always, a good performance from the defense could create a vicious cycle in game-flow, with short offensive drives further exposing State’s inexperienced defense.
All in all, a more experienced State offense leaves them likely to break the shutout this season, but on paper, it should be difficult for them (or nearly anyone else) to keep up with Alabama’s offense if it is running at full strength. With State coming off a bye week, it is conceivable that the well-rested Bulldogs could surprise Alabama with a tough game, particularly if the Tide is struggling with injuries at that point, as they have been in the last two seasons. But unless Stevens turns out to be the best QB in Mississippi State history, this should be a Bama win, one way or another.

2019.07.16 21:24 mikehoncho13 Big 12 Media Days Coaches' Press Conferences, Day 2

Five coaches -- Iowa State's Matt Campbell, West Virginia's Neal Brown, Baylor's Matt Rhule, Kansas State's Chris Klieman and Texas' Tom Herman spoke at Big 12 Media Days Tuesday morning. (There were also three presentations earlier in the day, but those didn't have enough substance to warrant a full breakdown. Check the game thread for updates from those.)
Here's a rundown of each of the five coaches' conferences.
Multiplicity in Ames
Matt Campbell led off Big 12 Media Days with a typically composed and motivational presser.
The Iowa State head coach began by shouting out the four seniors he brought to Media Days — JaQuan Bailey, Marcel Spears, Josh Knipfel and Deshaunte Jones — and called Spears “probably the greatest leader in our football program.” The 21 seniors on the Cyclones’ roster have “blazed the course of change at Iowa State football,” Campbell said, and it’s hard to argue with him.
As he said, if the Cyclones would’ve taken outside projections into consideration when Campbell took over the program in 2016, Iowa State would’ve “crumbled really fast.” When he arrived in Ames, the questions were about uniform colors and entrance music; now, the Cyclones are picked to finish third in the Big 12.
Campbell’s first two questions dealt with those increased media expectations for Iowa State after back-to-back successful years, and he said he’s tried to build the program around “player-driven leadership.”
“Not really kind of worried about what anybody said outside of our walls but creating a belief and sense of unity inside our walls,” he said. “I think what that's allowed us to do is navigate the highs and the lows that have come our way. This is a group that we continue to pour into what it means to be an Iowa State Cyclone, what it means to have great humility and character and when that's your starting point it gives you the ability to have a great foundation underneath you to navigate whatever comes your way.”
Campbell credited linebackers Spears and Mike Rose for building a strong middle of the defense, and also said interior defensive linemen like Ray Lima and JaQuan Bailey are crucial.
“What we have done is tried to do a great job, and it's like anything — you want to be strong up the middle, in any sport, [and] continue to create great depth around the strength in the middle of us.”
The Cyclones won’t have workhorse back David Montgomery to rely on anymore, but three returners in Kene Nwangwu, Johnnie Lang and Sheldon Croney earned mention from Campbell as players that have “critical experiences in their careers” to help out Iowa State. They’ll run behind an offensive line that Campbell called an “Achilles heel” early on in his tenure with the Cyclones, but will return five starters.
Campbell also stressed the importance of the tight ends to the Iowa State program, and said they give the Cyclones an ability to be multiple. In a 167-word answer, he used “multiplicity” three times and “multiple” twice. He really wants to be multiple.
Brock Purdy can help with that. Campbell said the best quarterbacks in the Big 12 “own” their offenses, and Purdy has a chance to come into ownership of the Iowa State attack.
He closed out his press conference by answering a question on his interest in any NFL jobs.
“I'll be honest with you, I've never put a lot of thought into it,” he said. “I’ve always put a lot of thought and effort into, number one, my greatest passion is to develop and help 18-22 year old men go from a young man to a chance to leave as a 22 year old man.”
'Young, Very Inexperienced’ Mountaineers
Neal Brown’s head coaching debut at Big 12 Media Days made it clear that he’s trying to rebuild West Virginia almost from the ground up.
The Mountaineers lost a ton of stars from the 2018 team, and are welcoming in Brown to replace Dana Holgorsen, who had a definite system in place that will take some time to replace. Brown acknowledged all of that, and cautioned West Virginia fans against expecting too much too soon.
“We're young, very inexperienced,” he said. “What we're going to look like in the fall I'm not sure yet. I'm really not. We have had 15 onfield practices. We're going to be a group that really grows and improves as we go through our Big 12 Conference and what is a very challenging schedule, but I do like our guys.”
Brown said he and his staff have received a warm welcome from Mountaineers fans — which he jokingly chalked up to being “undefeated so far” — but again stressed restraint.
“It's one of those things where there's so much energy and so much excitement, you want to make sure that they understand that we lost a lot from last year…and we're going to be a young football team, and I think our fan base understands that, and there's going to be some patience.”
The schedule isn’t doing West Virginia any favors. The Mountaineers are one of four teams in the country playing 11 FBS opponents in 2019. Brown said he’s well aware of the toughness of the schedule, but he doesn’t talk to his players at all about it. Games against natural rivals like Pitt and Virginia Tech, which add FBS opponents to the schedule, are positives, Brown said.
Brown also said he won’t shy away from bringing some of the same hard-nosed running he favored at Troy to the Big 12.
“You will have to score to win games,” he said, “but I do think it's important if you look at the teams that have had the most success it's been the teams that have been able to run the ball, especially when people know you're going to run the ball. Those are the teams that have won close games.”
Brown was an offensive coordinator at Texas Tech from 2010-12, so he has familiarity with the Big 12. He said the conference has had “an extremely high level of quarterback play” dating back to “2008 or so.” Some of the recent hires are bringing more defensive focus into the conference, he said, but “the identity in this league has been so far as an offensive football league.”
As far as recruiting goes, Brown said that while he will attract transfer players when necessary, he prefers to build from the ground up.
“We're always going to try to build our team through the high school football recruiting. I think that's how you build your foundation,” he said. “We will take transfers, that's something, whether you're at West Virginia or any of the other nine teams in this league everybody has done that and we will continue to do that but we're going to build our program through high school football players.”
Bears Make Off-Field Leaps, Eye On-Field Progress
Matt Rhule has accomplished quite a bit in his first two years with the Bears — a hard reset of program culture, a phenomenal job connecting with Texas high school coaches and a team that seems to be built for the future.
He wants you to know, however, that his players are accomplishing more off the field.
“As you hear me talk I think the one thing that you take away from it is I'm proud of what our team has done in the off-season,” Rhule said. “Record-setting GPAs, 839 hours of community engagement, four guys just finished a mission trip in South Africa and we are doing that while our guys are taking over 33 different majors.”
There’s no denying that Rhule has made great strides remaking the Baylor image in a post-Art Briles era. But how will the Bears be on the field this year?
If Rhule gets his way, they’ll be more consistent.
“I think we were a team last year that was good at times, not necessarily consistent but showed some flashes and finished the season the right way. We are hoping that we can become a team that week-in and week-out knows what to expect…We were a team that got blown out against Oklahoma and came back and beat Kansas State. We got blown out at West Virginia and then they were able to beat Oklahoma State. We were reactionary and great teams are consistent every single time.”
That starts up front, both on the offensive and defensive sides of the ball. Baylor is transitioning to a three-down system on defense instead of four-down, and Rhule hopes that will help. He also said that building a lead and forcing teams to pass is the biggest key to upping the Bears’ sack numbers.
On offense, however, he’s not too concerned with sack numbers, and that’s because he knows Charlie Brewer loves to use his legs.
“We're probably always going to have a few more sacks than we should because of the way that Charlie plays,” he said. “When I was in the NFL I did a study and Aaron Rogers had a bunch of sacks, but it was because he was going to get out of the pocket and scorch you, so he would take a sack…[Brewer] is going to play that way and that's what makes him beloved by his teammates.”
Rhule thinks Brewer has the chance to make a major leap in 2019.
“I thought he was a really good quarterback,” Rhule said, “and at the end of the year when we were able to run the ball and protect him I thought he was an excellent quarterback…I’ve seen great work from him and that to me tells me he's ready to go be a great player this year.”
A survey of Texas high school football coaches in Dave Campbell’s Texas Magazine named Rhule as the second most trusted FBS coach in Texas. Rhule said that’s a result of the hard work he and his staff have put in on the recruiting front.
“We have an open door policy that high school coaches in the state of Texas can walk into our offices on a Friday before we play the University of Oklahoma and they can sit there,” Rhule said. “We want people to be around and I think the biggest thing is when we have made mistakes and we have made mistakes in dealing with coaches and I've picked up the phone and said, hey, I made a mistake there.”
In Rhule’s third year at Temple, the Owls went from 6-6 to 10-4. He’s hoping the Bears can make a similar leap forward in 2019, his third year at Baylor.
“That's the expectation for me, but it's way easier said than done,” he said. “I expect myself to do the job that I'm hired to do and that's to get us to be a bowl team every year and have us be a team in November that's fighting to play in the championship game and we weren't that last year and that's the next step. A lot of things have to happen in order to make that happen, but we're going to fight like heck to make it happen.”
Swapping One Legend For Another
Chris Klieman has won four championships at North Dakota State, so he knows how to handle the media.
But because he’s at Kansas State, where he’s taking over for a bona fide institution, Klieman still plays the deferential card.
“What Coach (Bill Snyder) did at Kansas State was nothing short of remarkable,” Klieman said, “and I'm going to feed off that. We have great facilities. We have a great infrastructure. We have a great culture because of what Coach did. I know I'm not going to fill his shoes. I'm just trying to continue in his legacy, but doing it our own way.”
Don’t let that fool you. Klieman is a savvy, capable coach, and while he’s still “learning his football team,” he’s ready to bring his own style to Manhattan.
“Well, it helps that we have a bunch of [offensive] linemen back,” Klieman said, “because we want to establish the ground game and get the ball in the playmakers hands at wide receiver and stuff.”
To get the ball in those receivers’ hands, you need a capable quarterback, and Klieman thinks Skylar Thompson has what it takes.
“I'm excited to have Skylar Thompson who I recruited four years ago and offered him a scholarship at North Dakota State,” Klieman said. “So I was excited when I had the opportunity to meet him that I'm going to get a chance to be a part of his life and coach him.”
Offensive and defensive line development will be a priority. Klieman brought three defensive linemen — Trey Dishon, Wyatt Hubert and Reggie Walker — with him to Media Days, and he says all three have done a “phenomenal job of leading” during spring ball. On offense, he said he wants to find “big, long, lean” guys and build them into solid linemen.
“I think that's in general what the best programs do,” Klieman said, “is they develop the current guys that they have on campus and you go out and try and find those guys that not only fit your scheme offensively and defensively, but fit your profile or culture as far as the work ethic, the character, the competitive fire.”
But that requires a few solid recruiting classes, and attracting top-level talent to Kansas State isn’t always easy. Klieman said he plans on luring recruits by giving them a chance to play early.
“Did you want to play in a style of offense where we're going to get the playmakers the football and you're going to have an opportunity to play at the next level and an opportunity to play early?” Klieman said. “I think that's the number one sell, is a young man can play early.
“With the transfer portal, with the early entries in drafts and stuff you need a bunch of guys to play early. I think having the ability to offer that to a guy that you're good enough you're going to have an opportunity to play, you're not going to be guaranteed anything, but if you're good enough you're going to be able to play, I think will attract those guys.”
Some Headlines, Some Insight at Texas
Say this about Tom Herman, the man is generous to the media. When directly asked, he chummed the waters with two of Texas’ favorite topics.
Number one: yes, Herman is completely okay with reviving the Texas-Texas A&M rivalry.
“I would love to see the rivalry renewed,” he said. “I think it’s great for college football. It’s great for Texas. There’s plenty of other intra-state rivals that are in different conferences that find a way to play each other: Clemson-South Carolina, Georgia-Georgia Tech, Florida-Florida State, Iowa-Iowa State, the list goes on and on.”
Herman said he doesn’t know what needs to happen, because he wasn’t at Texas in 2011 when the rivalry ended. But he’s ready to resume it.
Number two: yes, he saw Terry Bradshaw and Baker Mayfield slamming quarterback Sam Ehlinger. No, he’s not excited about it.
“I don’t know if excited was the first emotion,” he said. “But, you know, I heard it. I would be lying to you if I told you I don’t know what you’re talking about. I certainly do, but it’s irrelevant, what other people say about us and our program…Sam loves to play with a chip on his shoulder, and I’m sure he will use this to crank it up a bit.”
It’s about time for Texas to start competing for national titles again, but Herman said he doesn’t feel rushed. Players and coaches win games, he said, but administrations win championships, and he thinks that with AD Chris Del Conte and university president Greg Fenves, the Longhorns have a “championship administration.”
“We’re probably a bit ahead of schedule, to be honest with you, in terms of getting us back to consistently being where we expect Texas to be,” Herman said. “But I do think there is an element of patience…We weren’t here to just have a really good season in year two. We were here to rebuild a program that’s capable of sustaining success, and we feel like we’re on our way there.”
When it comes to on-the-field product outside of Ehlinger, Herman said he’s excited about the development of running backs Keontay Ingram and Tre Watson, and specially freshman Jordan Whittington.
“The emergence of Jordan Whittington has been remarkable,” Herman said. “I’ve never seen, in my 22 years of coaching, a young man having never played a certain position, even in high school, to come in and say, ‘hey, kid, you’re not going to play tailback for us at least for this season, if not longer,’ and say ‘yes sir.’ He’s a natural at it. We’re really excited about him as well.”
Herman doesn’t run a “fun and gun, or chuck and duck” style. Texas will make use of NFL concepts on all offensive fronts, just run out of the shotgun formation.
“We want to be a power running team, and we’re slowly building that,” he said.
The Texas defense is still young, and Herman knows it needs improving, but he has faith in coordinator Todd Orlando, whom he called the “cream of the crop” in the Big 12.
Plus, as Herman said, “young and talented is better than young and not talented.”

2019.06.17 19:00 zlatandiego Recruiting - where things stand currently in June 2019

Threw together some numbers comparing where we are currently to where we were at this point last year. I think people are getting a little bit frustrated with the recruiting battles that we've been losing, so I wanted to take a moment for a reality check and for everybody to step back and see the bigger picture.

2019 recruiting class through June

The following are players that we had committed through the end of June 2018 in the 2019 recruiting cycle:
  • QB Jalon Jones (.9001)
  • OL Wardrick Wilson (.8917)
  • OL Ethan White (.8643)
  • OL Riley Simonds (.8809)
  • WR Ja'Markis Weston (.8763)
  • WR Dionte Marks (.8817)
  • WR Trent Whittemore (.8643)
  • DL Jammal Abrams (.8431)
  • DL Jaelin Humphries (.9059)
  • LB Tyron Hopper (.9595)
Note that Hopper received a massive rankings boost well after his commitment, and was closer to the .8900-.9100 range when he first committed.
The average rating of committed players through June was .8868 based on their final ratings. We had 10 commitments at this point, with 4 of them being bluechips (40% bluechips).

2019 recruiting class through August

If we were to include the rest of the Summer until the season started, you would add the following players:
  • LB Jesiah Pierre (.8676) Committed July
  • OLB Mohamoud Diabate (.9510) Committed August
  • ILB Diwun Black (.9356) Committed August
  • CB Chester Kimbrough (.8850) Committed August
This bumped our average rating of players committed at that point up to .8934. This is with 14 commitments and 6 bluechips (43% bluechips).

2020 recruiting class halfway through June

  • DL Gervon Dexter (.9775)
  • WR Leonard Manuel (.9640)
  • DL Johnnie Brown (.9249)
  • WR Jaquavion Fraziars (.9210)
  • CB Avery Helm (.9205)
  • QB Anthony Richardson (.8989)
  • ATH Jaheim Bell (.8884)
  • S Rashad Torrence (.8858)
  • WR Jeremiah Johnson (.8825)
  • WDE Morven Joseph (.8784)
  • OL Jovens Janvier (.8599)
  • TE Jonathan Odom (.8580)
  • OL Gerald Mincey (.8506)
Our current average player rating is .9008. We have 13 commitments and 6 bluechips (46% bluechips), with it far more likely to go up than down based on projected decommitments/rankings updates and not factoring in future commits.
Our average player rating is well above where it was at this point last year. We have higher rated top-level players on board currently, with 5 of our guys in the top 250. For comparison, only 1 of the 2019 group was in the top 250 at this point. (Jaelin Humphries at the time, but he swapped with Tyron Hopper at a later date).
The final rankings are nowhere near set in stone right now. Non-football problems could end up dropping some players a little in the rankings (Leonard Manuel). Some guys are currently on the rise with recent updates (Anthony Richardson and Avery Helm). Some guys are going to be getting boosts in upcoming rankings updates (Jaheim Bell and Gerald Mincey). Some guys are in a position where they could have a meteoric rise based on the current teams recruiting them and what type of film they put out their senior years (Morven Joseph). Plenty of moving pieces still.
4 of our current commitments are in the top 35 in Florida, with 2 in the top 10. Compare that to last year at this time, with 0 in the top 35 in the state through June (only 1 in the top 50). We ended up finishing with 9 in the top 50 in the state, including Diwun Black who was more of a Mississippi commitment than a Florida one.

Final Thoughts

I think a big part of the frustration are the lost battles over major prospects. Guys like Josh Braun (UGA), Demarkcus Bowman (Clemson), Marcus Rosemy (UGA), and Jahquez Robinson (Alabama) are players who have made UF visits that we were hoping to land, but that ended up choosing other major programs. It almost feels like that more of this is happening in the current year than last year. A lot of this can be attributed to the levels of players that we are in on in our recruiting area. Last year, a lot of our bigger recruiting commit battles were against programs like Tennessee, South Carolina, FSU, and Miami. We actually didn't have many battles against schools like Clemson, UGA, or least not ones where we had a snowball's chance in hell of making the top list.
With UGA in 2019, Tyrique Stevenson, Warren McClendon, and Kaiir Elam were the guys who we wanted badly that truly gave us a shot. Plenty more we wanted, but none of them looked our way. For Clemson, it was basically just Frank Ladson. They weren't interested in any of our 2019 guys. And even Ladson didn't really bother looking our way after decommitting early on in the cycle. We had a couple more battles with Alabama, with guys like Trey Sanders, Khris Bogle, Keon Zipperer, Justin Eboigbe, Marcus Banks, and Jahleel Billingsley truly considering UF.
Compare that to 2020. We battled UGA for Gervon Dexter, Leonard Manuel, Carson Beck, Josh Braun, Jaquavion Fraziars, Warren Brinson, Marcus Rosemy, and Morven Joseph. We're still battling them for Avantae Williams, Xavion Alford, Jahari Rogers, Timothy Smith, and a few others, with likely a few more late battles that will pop up closer to NovembeDecember. It's easy in hindsight to say that these are still battles for UF that we have a shot in, but it's a pretty clear difference in the caliber of teams that we are recruiting against and competing with. All of that to say that there are still some major hurdles to get past - Battling for elite prospects doesn't really matter if you aren't landing them. There is a ton of time left in this current cycle for things to either improve or get worse.
The good news is that we are putting ourselves in a FAR better position than last year to land the elite guys that have Clemson, UGA, and Alabama fighting for them. We are still in some dogfights with the tier 2 recruiting programs like LSU, Auburn, Texas, etc. We are finally at that point in recruiting (the class following the bump class) where on-field results are going to start really affecting who is interested. Beating the dog out of Miami and FSU this year will all but guarantee the top class in the state, with the caveat that Miami is benefitting from a bump class and therefore could have an incredibly high recruiting ceiling regardless of game-results. Hate to say it, but the way this current cycle is going with so many battles against UGA, I think that the WLOCP is starting to shape up to become the type of game that can either keep us hanging around 9th-14th overall in the final rankings, or it can propel us into that next tier up where we are pushing a top 7 or so class. Going to be a lot of recruits watching that one to see if UF is in the running to compete with UGA at a playoff level for the forseeable future.
There are a TON of players to be watching related to UF recruiting. I'm currently updating a list of some of our main current targets who are either uncommitted or potentially interested in looking around. Stay tuned.
